View Full Version : Mechine work
I have seen pics on this form and magazines of 1911s that have had mechine work done to area where your bottom three fingers hold (sorry I don't know what it's called). Some look little dimples some are longer grooves. Do you guys know of any gunsmiths that do that kind of work?
It's called front strap checkering.
There are plenty of companies online that will do it, but I don't know who.

Gemini Customs----THE place to get it done, check them out. www.geminicustoms.com i thinkk thats the site. Marc Morganti does great work.
Novak's for stipling, I had a few done there, fair price, great work as well as turnaround. There are others out there.
Front strap checkering - Can be done in 20, 25 and 30 lines per inch.
Can be machine or hand cut.
Cylinder and Slide, very good work.
Sprinfield Armory (if you have a springfield)
Les Baer, Ed Brown, as well as other custom
shops
Other such as cobra scales (Ed Brown) rapture (Kimber) scolloped, some of the custom gun makers call it different. A bit of help for your self is to go to the web sights of some of the custom as well as the non custom makers, read as much as you can, get down to the gunshops and feel the front straps and other checkering.
Hope this helps. Cheers Floyd
