I purchased Dawson Precision sights for my Glock, and the rear fixed sight has an allen set screw on top. I understand that the screw is to tighten up the sight once it's in place. However, how is it to be used? Isn't the rear sight tight in place anyway, or is it loose enough to move on its own? Is the set screw supposed to be tightened hand-tight, or is it OK to Loc-Tite it in place to keep the sight from moving once it's adjusted for windage? Should the screw be Loc-Tited to the slide itself, or just Loc-Tited to the threads. If not Loc-Tited in place, will the screw have to be retightened and how often?

I installed a set of the new Dawson fixed rears along with a FO front recently and found the rears extremely tight. They "went" with a pusher but required more pressure than standard night sights such as Trijicons, etc. While others may have had different experiences in my case, the set screw is overkill...no way that rear would ever move.
Above said, I went ahead and tightened the set-screw (no locktite) just to fill the hole.

Thanks. I will see how tight the rear sight is, then evaluate from there.

I agree the rear sight will not move but the instructions that came with my Ameriglos was to use blue loctite on the set screw. Probably not necessary but just thought you might like to know.

Thanks for the information. Would you LocTite the screw threads, or try to LocTite the screw base to the dovetail? The only reason I would bother doing it is because, once, I had a rear sight that actually worked itself off the slide when the set screw came loose, and I didn't notice until all my shots were off the paper and I checked the rear sight.

You only need to add loctite to the threads, a tiny ammount applied with a pin to one or two threads will be sufficent but you may need to use a magnifine glass to see what your doing.
