View Full Version : Wilson introducing a KZ 9x19 - 17 round cap - possibly the ultimate platform for 9x23
http://www.wilsoncombat.com/new_kz9mm.asp
If the mags will hold 9x23, or can be adapted for such, this platform may well be the ultimate 1911.
I can see myself carrying a Commander sized, 31 oz, same thickness as a gov't model, 15 rounds of 9x23 pistola...
Can't wait for the introduction.

actually the ultimate 9x23mm platform is a custom Jim Garthwaite CCO in 9x23mm.

Wow, I see by the picture Wilson dropped the external extractor from the KZ line. I may have to reconsider buying one now.:)

yeah. you and your 9x23 ! ;)
The thing is ugly and is not a 1911. Not to me anyway. I dislike the plastic lower. Want a glock? get a glock!
Have to have lightweight lower? get aluminum.
I like stainless steel.
still dislike 9mm but if you have to have one I will still let you in the house I guess.
psst. looks like a lady gun! ;e

That whole books/covers thing...
Assuming the mags can hold the 9x23, the potential energy of the rounds in the gun will be 9,984 ft/lbs :)
A Gov't model, even with 8 round mags, and one in the chamber - shooting +P ammo - would be in the 5,200 range, best case scenario...
Perhaps an oversimplification, but not a bad way to measure a guns HP/weight ratio :)
Lady gun, indeed!
How long before someone points out that a G20 can hold 12,000 ft lbs? Figured I'd cut them off at the pass ;f
Bill,
I used to think the same thing, until I shot the KZ. Man, it's fun! A buddy of mine bought one a couple months ago, and I think it's a very fun gun to shoot. I'm not crazy about the fact that it's got a lot of Wilson's lowest end MIM parts in it, but it's got a nice trigger and the gun is very accurate. The grip works really well for me, although it may not for others.

I always thought the KZs were unattractive, something about the shape and contrasting finish. They never looked as nice as even a scratchy Mil-Spec SA to me, and aren't the .45s over a grand? In years of IDPA, I never saw anyone shooting with one, so I figured there must be some reason people didn't warm up to them. With the 4 inch gun and the shorter looking mag well, it looks a lot more balanced and appealing, though. If the price was right, might beat heck out of the XD or MP I have been considering. If the mags are some expensive Wilson only accessories, interest rapidly decreases for me. Sure could be be an excellent ESP gun, teaching gun, or carry gun if you prefer the 9mm.
EDITED TO ADD: ACK! Just checked the MSRP on the KZ.45, $1365. Magazines 40 a pop. Can't see the 9 being any cheaper...the STI 9 or an SA is looking better and better.
I've shot a KZ and came away impressed. Slide to frame was tight, accuracy great, trigger great...

No way on the Glock mags in the KZ. The Wilson mags may also be the same as Para mags or STI or whatever, but one of the guys who shoots hi-caps will have to give the whole scoop on that. None of them are inexpensive. I just have the OPINION that the gun is overpriced for MY needs, for somebody else (pangris if he can breed it with a 9X23) it might be just the ticket.

When you're done rolling your eyes, remember two things -
A) grip angle
B) The entire KZ is barely as wide as a Glock mag
Resume!

Wonder why they are so heavy? Lightweight Alloy 1911s are only in the 28-30 oz range. Being plastic, I would thing it would be similar to the Glocks in the 23-25 oz range.
Steel skeleton runs through the polymer.
