Help Me Pick My Night Sights, Please

Okay...I've searched the forums and read everything I could about the various brands of night sights. After doing so, I'm no closer to picking which ones I want than I was before (searching is WAY over-rated).

There are lots of good options out there: Novak, Trijicon, Meprolight, TRUGLO, Heinie, XS 24/7, Ameriglo, etc.

Below are the criteria I want to be met:

1) Very visible both during the day and during the night.
2) Fast sight picture.
3) Durable.
4) Able to be used for one hand slide racking (i.e., racking slide by catching rear sight on belt, boot heel, etc.)

When you make a recommendation, PLEASE say WHY you recommend them. :)

That last criteria pretty much eliminates the "snag free" designs, but I basically want a sight that you would take to combat.

That being said, I currently have the Glock factory night sights. I like them well enough, but I can't help but wonder if the Heinie Straight Eight or the XS "Big Dot" might be better in terms of quickly getting the sights on target.

Your thoughts / recommendations / opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I have had both Meprolight and Ameriglo,prefer the ameriglo for ease of windage adjustment with the set-screw.I made mine a loose press-fit,so I can just loosen screw and tap it over.Meps are a little brighter,however,and both beat trijicon in my experience.

Mepros are definitely bright plus you should be able to do a one hand slide rack

The XS/AO Big Dots seem to meet three of your criterion (see separate thread on XS Sights for "why") well enough.

As to the 4th, "Able to be used for one hand slide racking (i.e., racking slide by catching rear sight on belt, boot heel, etc.)", I don't see why not.

With regard to the one-handed slide racking thingy, I'd take care in fitting these to get the rear dove tail as tight--and accurate--as possible (a little filing may be necessary) before applying the LocTite and set screws. I suppose you could fix one screw at a time, once you're satisfied with the accuracy.

I've looked at the Heinie sights and they look promising (although I think the serrations on the rear sight are distracting...and I wish they had more of a white outline). I'll have to check out Warren. I haven't seen those before.

Anyone have a picture of Heinie and/or Big Dot at night? Didn't see any night pics on either of their websites.

I've seen Novak, Meprolight, Glock, Trijicon and TRUGLO at night, but I haven't seen the others.

Depending on the 'real' use of the weapon I just can't go past the XS Big Dot sights. 'Dot the I' with their sights at night suits my needs 100%

Same in the daytime, up they come into your sight plane and no doubt about where the front sight is in relation to your threat... Real quick.
