hk p2000sk condition when new?

would appreciate any experience on how HK guns are and look when they are brand new.

there is a p2000sk (new) that i am eyeing at the LGS and the barrel looks clean and overall the gun looks clean but the one thing i did notice is the serial plate looked like the inscribes are either rusting or rusted?

it looked kinda of like the color of that gold crap they put in my g27 (that break in coppery stuff inside slide and frame) when i bought it.

do HK's come with some sort of gunk that you may have to wipe down or clean off, or do you think that is the beggining of rust?

also, (forgive my hk newbishness) the overall finish of the gun seemed good but didnt quite look as new as my g27 when i bought it. do the hks have a more dull finish and coloring? the slide looked new but the orange/copper lettering looked a little funny. is it just a matter of wiping down the gun with some clp?

any info on this would be great, as im getting a little anxious to drop some cash for one. thanks.

The serial #'s on these guns are etched into the plate with a laser. It is not rust that you see there.

ahhh that makes more sense. i was thinking that it may be burned into the plate and that was the burnt stain, but yours makes more sense LOL. didnt think it was that hi-tech... lol lazers. no wonder why that bastard costs so much!

anyways thanks for the response wales... i acutally picked it up tonight regardless. woohoo, i will be nuts over the next 10 days waiting for pick-up.

I had the same thought with my new P2000SK, it did look like rust, but I quickly realized it was normal. I shot 450 rounds on my first range day with it; flawless, straight out of the box.

haha yeah thats the stuff i like to hear.... i dont get to pick mine up until saturday. i have some Remy Golden Sabers waiting to be freed from their casings once their new home gets picked up.

I'll agree with you that the 2000 series doesn't have the fit and finish attention to it that a Glock does, or even the USP series. I have said since I bought my 2000 it's the best shooting, feeling pistol but it doesn't look as well made.

i actually think the gun itself looks extreeeeeeemely well made. i was just thinking that the top-coat or lack there of, is my only gripe.

Glocks finish is glossier than the Hostile Environment finish Hk uses, yes. Glock is a matte-kind of finish. HK is more of a flat, charcoal briqutte, black.

Every Hk I've handled has had a tighter fit to all the parts than your average Glock. Glocks loose factory tolerances are part of why they eat absolutely anything while dirty. But then, my USP has worked like a champ, too. And its certainly more accurate than your average Glock.
