A friend of mine recently aquired an AR-15 with 5 mags and an SKS.
Some stuff came with them, slings, scopes, extra stocks, etc.....
He lives in California. I believe this is a problem for him. Is there anyway he can register his weapons?
Can modifications be done to nake them legal in CA?
He lives in the backwoods, so it's not like he's parading these things around. What would happen if he got caught transporting them in his truck?

Ouch Alex!
From what I understand, he needs to get rid of them plain and simple if he is in Krapifornia! That is, unless he wants a paid vacation...

Congragulations on aquiring some fine examples of technology and craftmanship.
You should definitly put them in the truck, unloaded and locked up out of sight. Also load your dog, handguns, important papers and any money you have lying around the house, into the truck as well.
While being very carefull not to violate any trafic laws drive directly for the nearest state line. Do not make any stops. Try to make it on whatever gas you have in the tank at the time.
Good luck, we'll be praying for you. Say goodbye Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, Welcome to America!

Yeah, he picked them up for $400.00. Is that a deal or what?

Actually no. His brother in-law was just looking to get rid of them. No time, no money, etc. etc.

I'll be more than happy to take them off his hands so he doesn't get in trouble. ;p
Perhaps it might be legal to "rent" them permanently. It is 100% ILLEGAL to import/ transfer/ buy sell/build or aquire in any way shape or form an AR or SKS (unless the SKS is stripper clip fed). Tell him to buy the book "how to own a gun and stay out of jail" 2001 or 2002 CA edition. It is an invaluable and comprehensive guide to CA gun laws.

Thanks Munk,
I'll tell him about that.
Right now, I'm helping him with tactics and the varied uses of these weapons. You can never have enough training.

His brother in law wanting to get rid of them for $400.....hmmm....
maybe that's becuase they're illegal to own there! I'm sure you could find some stolen or "hot" guns for $50-$100, but it doesn't mean they're a steal if they're stolen.

Thats an excellent point there. Stolen arms are not only stolen and illegal, they are also karmetically cursed. Just think of all the people who drop several hundred on an SKS or an AR-15 (just an example) , only to have their heart ripped out of their chest threw their groin once they find them missing. I hate thievs!
Not to mention how they're used after being stolen!
Lock up the gun you aren't carrying!
Check this out.

hmmm...not coming up as it should.

OK, this one goes directly to assault weapons
The first thing he should do is have an out of state freind call his/her local sheriff's dept and run the numbers to see if they're stolen. If they are not, then he should go out of state immediatly and sell them at a gun show or gun shop. If they are, he should kick the snot out of his brother in law.
Note that I don't think most SKS's are illegal in California, as Munk said, if it's stripper clip fe dI think it's still okay. If it's a Sporter, or "M" or "D" model;, then it's illegal.

This tread is over a year old. How did it wind up back on the board? It should be in archives or the trash by now.
Notice the orignal replies were in December 2001! :0

Those are some fine weapons. If I were him, I'd keep my mouth shut and keep 'em locked away in the house.
