I just got back from picking up my new P7M8 from my FFL. I have been considering one for awhile and finally pulled the trigger (no pun intended) when I found a relatively good deal on one of the last produced NIB. I got it shipped from Arego's Pawn in Arkansas and can highly recommend them as they were very friendly and helpful over the phone. I found the gun listed on GunsAmerica.
I took it straight back to the range for a quick 100 rounds. First thing... what a freakin' tackdriver!?! I had always heard great things about the P7 and heard it acclaimed as one of the most accurate 9mm made. Now I believe it all. It is so smooth with absolutely minimal recoil and muzzle flip. Pure joy to shoot. The squeeze cocker is going to take some getting used to, but nothing I can't sort out with dry fire practice. It's basically a single action trigger when the grip is cocked and it is one of the smoother triggers I've experienced. Much better than the long sluggish pull of the USP models.
The first magazine (8 +1) gave me a 2 inch group at 7 yards with the first shot being the outlier. The first group was about an inch or two high and right but I had tightened everything up by the 3rd magazine. Was getting about a 6 inch group at 25 yards by round #100. That is more the limits of my own eyesight and ongoing work on trigger control than the gun itself.
I had no malfunctions or failures. It was well oiled in the box and I didn't do anything more to prep it before the range. I used cheap Blazer without a hitch. As I had heard, it did get a little warm after 60 or so in succession but nothing that wasn't manageable. If you are that bothered by a little warmth on your fingers than maybe you should find another hobby or find another way to defend yourself.
The 8 round magazine is limiting when I'm used to my high cap Glock mags and it came with 2 in the box. This is nothing new to anyone using a 1911 or smaller capacity CCW weapon. It's an acceptable sacrifice that I realized going in.
I don't plan to carry this for CCW and will most likely reserve it for range plincking and maybe competition later.
I'm now an official member of the "cult." Most anyone that know the P7 will agree and knows what I'm saying. Those of you that don't know and are pondering one than go for it while you still can (prices are going up and up). You won't regret it... and if you do than you won't have any trouble finding someone to take it off your hands.
Now I'm off to strip and clean my new baby.
