I did not think that I was in the market for a new pistol until I accompanied a friend to a local shop and handled a P2000SK V3 - DA/SA with decocker.

It just fits. I have never been able to pull the trigger on any previous pistol and not have to work at keeping the sights aligned thru the trigger stroke - even my Springfield 1911 45acp.

My first thought was how great the pistol felt in my hand but what a shame the trigger was so awful - an overpriced piece - then I noticed how the sights always stayed aligned without any correction - even with such a heavy trigger pull. I do like the SA pull after the slide is cycled.

I am trying to talk myself out of purchasing the pistol……. Never thought I could/would spend this much $ on anything that was not a 1911.

I have read a thread on how to convert an P2000SK V2 to a V1 - @ 8lb to 5lb trigger pull with 2 replacement springs. Is anything like that possible to reduce the V3 DA trigger pull?

I am not sure what caliber to choose. I am thinking of the .40 s&w but concerned about recoil. I have no personal experience with the .40 s&w caliber.

Part of “deal” to purchase the pistol is that my wife wants to use it at the range instead of being limited to my High Standard 22lr. She hates the recoil of my Kahr PM9 (weighs @ 16oz) and even my downloaded 45acp reloads in my Springfield light weight compact (weighs @ 25oz).

I probably should just get the 9mm but….. I like the idea of the .40.

Can anyone with experience gauge/compare the H&K P2000SK .40 against the Kahr PM9 or Springfield compact in terms of recoil?

Thanks,

David

I have a p2000sk .40 and a xd-40 subcompact. The HK is higher quality in terms of the slide and the frame smootherness (less blocky) but I feel that the xd-40sc is built like a tank to handlge the .40 caliber. The xd-40sc feels heavier and it is much more ammo selective. As for recoil, the hk feels a little less but I have been shooting .40 since I started. The only negative thing I have on the hk p2000sk is that no one makes a tuckable adjustable iwb holster. Can you hear me COMP-TAC????????

I have the V3 P2sk in .40cal and find the recoil to be managable. My wife however thinks that she fired a hand mortar, so recoil may be an issue with your misses as well.

If the deal is contigent on sharing, I'd look at the 9mm. There are great defensive loadings that will do the job that she never has to shoot, and plain jane 115gr WWB should be very mild in the double recoil system.

I would highly recommend purchasing the pistol. It carries a lot of firepower in an ergonoically sized package. It has now become my every day carry gun and is very accurate, even though .40cal with a very short barrel. I have shot some very tight groups once I learned how to manage the take up in the trigger. I do shoot pretty low on double action though, must work on that. ;f

 I've had mine in 40cal since August of 2004. One of the first to arrive in my Area. It is the LEM type. I like it so much that it is my CCW! As for recoil. It is soft for a 40cal. I really like the LEM. I was'nt sure I would at first, but it's nice! Besides, I have a DA/SA in my USPc's! Have fun and stay safe;f

I tried to purchase the .40 thru CDNN Sports.
They will not ship to New York state.
It was not a mag capacity issue either since it came with 9rd mags.
They would not give me a reason.
I will keep looking becuase I am not willing to pay the $890 local price.

Some places just flat out refuse to do business with people from NY because of the assinine laws in the state. Unfortunately, some good folks suffer as the result of living behind enemy lines, and the vendors just don't seem to see that they are missing out on doing perfectly legal deals with good folks, or are just plain pissed off at NY and taking it out on the residents of the state, assuming that they are morons just like the politicians running the asylum. It really is too bad.

Anyway, in regards to the original question, the .40 recoil isn't that bad and the 9mm should be even less. I cannot compare it to the other offerings you mentioned, but in comparison to the G27, I'd say the recoil is more manageable, probably due to the different slides.

I wish they made a slightly larger version w/ a 4" barrel. I have my small compact already (P99c), but I really like this gun. I just shoot better at the range w/ a 4" barrel.
