How well are they? For the price I may pick one up. Assuming someone here has experience with them and can shed some light.

Assuming someone here has experience with them and can shed some light. http://www.classicarms.us/ Rob1035 02-27-2006, 09:37 quick search yielded these threads: http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=505956&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=503075&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=492540&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=484351&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=483397&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=467249&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=435111&highlight=RIA http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=436208&highlight=RIA  Slightly off-topic: I live about 15 minutes from Classic Arms, and was heading that way, checkbook in hand to buy a RIA 1911, and called to make sure they were open, "Not open to the public, we only sell via mail order and at gunshows". I was bummed TexasGlock23 02-27-2006, 09:44 Yes, I know how to form a search, but this is a forum where I can still ask questions rather than trying to narrow down which result will get me all the info I wanted. I would like to ask someone in which they respond with an answer or suggestion and then I can come to a conclusion on the question at hand;Q But thanks for the links! I want some first hand knowledge before considering. I am purchasing a CZ RAMI 9mm(for g/f) next week and now I have an excuse to buy me something. I am weighing out an AK or another pistol or home defense shotgun. The RI 1911's are rather cheap;) TexasGlock23 02-27-2006, 09:51 Sorry wasn't meaning to come off rude. I just re-read my post, g/f woke up on the wrong side and it is my fault of course. I am going on two hours of sleep trying to find out what to buy before I just give up and buy nothing. BTW the links had some useful info! Rob1035 02-27-2006, 10:29 haha no worries man, my lady has her aunt in town, so of course, i'm the source of all her troubles, as well as the root of all that is evil in the world. All the "research" I've done (ie web forum searches) has basically put people into two camps: the "RIA is garbage, dont waste your money" camp (which more often than not doesn't include actual hands on experience) and the "RIA is a good buy/first 1911/starter gun/etc" and many actual owners are pleased with them. Hard to resist at $300, I tell you that, especially since I just bought a coach purse (not for me!), which opens the door for a new gun purchase... TexasGlock23 02-27-2006, 11:13 ;z Yeah, I need to find something to buy soon. I am having withdrawls Hawkman 02-27-2006, 12:16 I bought a full-size RIA because I like 1911's and it was dirt cheap. I did not expect much but it was a winner. I shot it side by side with my Kimber Pro Raptor and the groups were the same. Sold the pro Raptor, used the funds to buy a commander size RIA. I put novak night sights on it and use it for carry now. Mine have been at least as reliable as the kimber's, etc. I have owned. For the money you can't go wrong. Check out 1911forums.com in the "Other 1911s" section. Also a factory rep (Blackdragon) posts there and offers answers, advice and help when needed. bakjr 02-27-2006, 12:59 I've been tempted to spend a little more and get a Charles Daily, which is an RIA with a little bit of upgrades, but the experience with my Officer's model RIA has me a little leary. Unfortunately, it couldn't get through a mag without at least one feeding failure. I heard Officer sized models can be more tempermental than the full sized ones though. Also, I belive they have quit making the RIA's and now they are Armscor's & Charles Daily's. The prices are as cheap as you can find in an 1911 pistol, but you can get an entry level Springfield for a little bit more. Rob1035 02-27-2006, 13:09 A representative of Rock Island actively posts on http://www.1911forum.com/ , and last I read, they were going to be selling all of the Armscor pistols under the Rock Island name. DocH 02-27-2006, 16:55 I bought a RIA a couple of months back.Very happy with it. My son ,who is in college,is elated with it and is saving to get another one in a couple of weeks. We're keeping them stock, tiny sights and all. Rusty Guns 02-27-2006, 20:03 I bought my RIA full size about 2 years ago. It was just a little tempermental the first fifty rounds, but nothing bad. since then she has done nothing but shoot, and shoot good. FMJ/HP it doesn't matter she will feed anything except an empty round, I tried it one time. But the guy that was bragging saying that his Kimber would feed empties, couldn't get his to do it either. So nothing lost. She is still a lot of gun for the money. I can buy three Rocks for the price of one Kimber, or one Rock and a lot of bullets and range time. Kimbers look nice, "But Not That Nice.";z Rusty:cool: vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
