View Full Version : Trigger creep
Those interested can file off the hammer hooks to reduce trigger creep. About half the original height works for me.

Just about anytime you reduce the hammer hooks by half the hammer will fall into DA mode when you pull the trigger, and may even catch on the half cock notch. Doing that much surgery to the hammer means you have to do a lot more surgery to make it work. It can work, but its a lot of time and effort.

Is the above a CZ liability quote? I've done several. Takes about half an hour each.

Of course not, you can do whatever you wish with your property. Just don't expect to get it fixed for free.
I haven't counted but I've done in the neighborhood of 250 trigger jobs on CZ pistols and clones. I know from experience that if you reduce the hook height to around half, and you must for a good trigger job on the stock parts, then you run into the risk of the gun falling back into DA mode and/or hitting the half cock notch. Not every one does this, but the majority do. If you use a trigger with an overtravel screw, it will do it almost every time you make the modification. With guns that do not have the overtravel screw in the trigger, the owner can take the hooks down, and incorrectly jerk the trigger fast enough to the rear so the sear doesn't hit the halfcock notch and the DA disconnector clears the trigger bow. I know, cause I have fixed about 10 or 12 like that.
There is only one model of CZ where this isn't a problem.
I have a few questions, I just bought a CZ 75B/SA, I really like it and I seem to shoot it much better than anything else I have except for a little Ruger MKII, but the trigger on the CZ has a lot of what I guess your calling "creep", is that where you can feel the sear sliding off of the hooks on the hammer? I also notice that when the trigger is pulled it also pulls the hammer back a little bit, that can't help matters any, it seems like a slight change of the angles between the sear and hammer contact would get rid of that, or is that there for a good reason, and is there a way to get the trigger almost as good as a good 1911 type pistol?

macgregor45,
I have decided to carry my CZ40B, so I got on Jim Miossi's waiting list to have an action job done. I have been thinking a lot about how I want the pistol set up and am leaning heavily toward having Mr. Miossi do his magic while leaving full sear engagement. Do you have any thoughts on the proper setup of a carry pistol for us amateurs.
Good shooting,
Mike

I don't get too radical on carry pistols. Just a basic polish job, then I see where the trigger pull weights are. If they are acceptable, then I'm done. If not then I play with the springs a bit, again not too much. If the SA pull needs some work then I'll go in and do hammer/sear work, but not too much.
Some guns just need a polish job, some need a lot more, but 100% reliability is the key.

macgregor45,
Does someone make a mainspring for the CZ40? I would like to experiment with my non-carry pistol to find the lightest mainspring that will always fire any round I load up. Then I could use a spring with one or two pounds higher rating in my carry piece and feel comfortable.
Good shooting,
Mike

Its been a while since I've seen a 40B, but don't they use the same mainsprings as the 75/85 series? If so, get an assortment of Wolff mainsprings and experiment.
