Just got my first HK, a USP 9mm Compact. I think I got the deal of a lifetime, an almost new in box pistol with a date code of AE, nine 10 round mags, factory night sights installed, and a Forbus holster. I got it all in trade for my NIB Glock 17 with three 17 round magazines. No cash, just a straight trade…..the guy I traded with just didn’t like the HK, but he loves Glocks.
I stressed to him that this was (for me) an incredible bargain, but he wanted to go ahead and do the straight trade……weeeeeellll OK by me :)
So, what do I need to know about this pistol, I’ve read the manual, looks very simple, but what are the things that YOU know and LOVE about HK USP’s? Your advice whould be appreciated.
Also, can anybody put a value on this new package of mine? I’m guessing about $800.00

That seems about right.
I have a full size 9mm that I really like, I actually shoot it better than my Glock 17L that I've had a lot longer.
One bad habit I got into with my first USP was riding the safety. USP's take a little more dedication than Glocks, but once mastered, I believe they are more dependable and accurate in the long run. In the past ten years, H&K's and Sig's have been the only brands that have never failed me. Plus with Sig and H&K there is a little panache that other brands don't carry. German pistoles are good.

What do I love about my HKs?
The .40 shoots like a 9mm.
The .45 shoots softer yet.
I can put all 13 rounds of .40 into a 6" paper plate at 50ft offhand.
Pick it up, close your eyes, then aim at something. When you open your eyes, the sights and gun will be almost perfectly on target. Nothing feels more natural in my hand, and I have somewhat medium sized hands.
HK took John Browning's genius design, got rid of all the extraneous crud of the 1911, added their own polymer genius (HK was plastic fantastic long before GLOCK).
Finally, there is the No Compromise quality that has made HK products the only choice of many of the world's fighting forces.
I really, really like my GLOCKs, but I love my HKs.
Now, I know you did not ask, but here's what I don't like about my USPs.
HK customer service bites for civilians. Thankfully, HKs rarely break.
Aftermarket accessories are few and far between. HK's proprietary rails, although the first of their kind, have few options, none cheap. Magazines are expensive. Holster options, especially for the fullsize, are limited. Again, HK doesn't really care about us civvies, so things like parts and magazines are likely to remain pricey.

 You can get Hi-Caps for it too! The ban is over. I have the 357sig/40cal, and have 12+1 if I want. It's even more with the Nine. Have fun & stay safe!;f

Let me put it this way: I was at the range today and tried out my new USP for the first time, firing 75 rounds of 9mm through her. Every single time i pressed that sweet trigger, i felt an incredible sense of joy! Im in love!;j

Price wise, HKs do cost more than Glocks. That being said, the other guy is just as happy as you are. I think you both made out well. Good luck.
