View Full Version : beretta 92F and 92FS differences?
I just got a 92F and I know the dustcover and hammer axis pin are different but I wanted to know if there are any moere differencesbetween them. I think there was something about the grip. Can anyone add some input to this?

The only differences between a F and an early FS is the oversized hammer pin and the internally modified grip to accommodate it. The other changes are between the early and late model FS's. About the time the Vertecs were introduced, Beretta changed the dimensions of the dust cover to give it a more tapered appearance and put an undercut in the backstrap where the web of your hand rests. The cut is really almost unnoticeable to the eye unless you know it's there. When you handle the weapon it really becomes evident though.
Depending on how old it is the mags may not be interchangeable. The notch for the mag catch is cut lower on the older 92f mags, I picked up a factory 92f mag aat a gunshow once and it would not lock into place.

There is (or should be) no difference between mags for the F, FS, D, and G full size guns. You run into a big difference when you start looking at the original 92 and 92S as they have a heel type (euro) mag release not the triggergaurd style. Most factory and some after market (Mec-Gar, USA) mags made since 1980 or so have both the standard and heel notches cut into them.
Good to know, I wonder what type of mag I ran into, or if it was just out of spec. I do know that it looked the part and said PB 9mm on the side just like any other factory mag I have come across.

Is it possible that you had a compact mag? they are about 1/2" shorter than a standard.
No, when I got back to the shop I held them side by side and they were the same length, just that the notch was lower on one than the other.
Still even more puzzled:)
