Firing pin lock out plunger question...

I have a colt with a customized 6 in compensated barrel package on it...

I recently purchased a slide so that I could flip out uppers and have a 5" slide and the custom 6"

At any rate, the slide got here today...it came with the extractor and firing pin in it...

I was putting the colt barrel, etc into it and I noticed that the firing pin lock out plunger is not there....

the slide is supposedly a series 80 slide...is this a big deal? i have done just about everything with 1911s except screw with the extractor and firing pin...

do I need to get a plunger and install it?

what exactly does this thing do that it wouldnt be with the slide?

anybody got some steps on how to do this if I must?

Is the receiver a Series 80 with the levers - to the right of the disconnector - in place?
If so, you can get the firing pin block plunger and spring and put them in just by removing the firing pin stop, firing pin, and extractor, then reassembling with the plunger and spring going in first and held in by the extractor.
I would think Colt would give you such an important safety part for the asking.

If not, if it is not a Series 80 receiver or if the levers have been removed, just leave the S80 slide alone. There are a lot of them being shot without the superfluous parts.

If it is a series 70 slide, without the recessed area, then the lever (the one in the frame) may be blocked when you pull the trigger. Maybe not though.
