View Full Version : Which 9mm For CCW?
I'm new to CZ, but I'm beginning to see why they're becoming so popular. I'm wondering which 9mm would be ideal for CCW? I don't really have a preference for certain features other than I like a model that's designed for your little finger to be on the grip.
BTW, is every model in CZ's line available in the U.S.?
Not every model is available, but there are quite a few available. With your criteria, I would suggest the P01 or the Compact.

Sonny,
I have a few questions if you don't mind. It would be greatly appreciated. Is the P01 a semi-compact? By the "Compact" model, you mean the '75B', right? From what I can tell, the semi-compacts have a little shorter barrel, but the same size grip as the full-size models. The compacts have both the shorter barrel & a shorter grip. Is my info correct? What would each of those models cost (roughly)?
Thanks

I prefer the P-01, but you might also consider the PCR. Of course if you want an even smaller pistol, take at look at the RAMI line.

Correct.
The P01, PCR Compact and 75 Compact, are all about the same size with barrel length of either 3.8" or 3.9" depending on which model. They all 3 weigh approximately the same with the PCR Compact and P01 both having alloy frames and the 75 Compact having a steel frame. The PCR and P01 are basically the same with the P01 having a light rail. IMO, the PCR has the best sites, kind of a Novak style.
Retail on the guns are
PCR and 75 Compact 554.00
P01 586.00
You should be able to get any of the 3 for about 425-450.
You could go with the RAMI, but without a longer mag, you'll never get your little finger on the grip.

I may have to check out the RAMI even though I prefer my pinky on the grip. Thanks.

I recall reading on one of the other CZ forums that the Pierce XD grip extension can be modified to fit the Rami - http://p201.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm66.showMessage?topicID=445.topic
I've stopped looking for a better carry gun since I bought my PCR. If you feel the need for a rail the P-01 would be the answer but I didn't need one so when I held both and found the PCR to be better balanced, nicer looking, better DA trigger, and less expensive I went with it. After several months I can say it's very accurate and 100% reliable, definitely my best gun buying decision so far.
The PCR is a great gun, it's my second choice after the P01. The trigger is just a luck of the draw, since they both have the same trigger, both of my P01's have very nice triggers, as does my PCR.

RAMI 9mm!
I have a PCR and a compact 40 and use them both and can use the same holsters too.
The CZ P01 is an excellent choice for 9mm CCW. Very accurate and reliable. If you can get one with 14rd mags get it. Mine came with 2 10 rds and it seems the 14rd mags are hard to come by.
My P01 came with 10rd mags. Griped to CZ and they exchanged them with the 14rd mags. Just cost shipping and $10.
Have heard they may not be doing that anymore and that I just got lucky.

How come I am the only one that mentioned the RAMI?

Without a doubt the CZ100. No safeties to mess with. Best pointing pistol I have ever held, bar none. Easy to conceal, about the same size as a Glock 19, but that is about as far as any comparison can go.
Good shooting,
Mike

Sonny D, I fail to see the need for a light/laser rail on a carry gun. I prefer the look of the PCR over the P01 but that is just me. I truly like my Rami 40 S&W and it is a very viable option, I consider it second only to my Glock 27. Lastly, not directed to anyone, a CZ75 Compact is a lot heavier than a PCR or P01. In the CZ Compact's favor is it feels like a BHP. Regards, Richard
Richard, I don't give a hoot about the rail either on a carry gun, but most of the time my Carry gun is also my nightstand gun. I've got a hand held tactical light, but it's easier IMO, to just have a nightstand gun that has a rail so I can attach a light. No fuss, no muss.
Sounds like you won the lottery on a good functioning 40S&W RAMI. From what I've heard at CZ-USA something like 60% have come back for problems in functioning, unlike the 9MM, which has pretty much been flawless.
I would probably have a 9MM RAMI, but I'm just not in the market at the time for another small gun.
