View Full Version : Remington 870
I am thinking about picking up a Remington 870 express synthetic 18"
Does anyone have any first hand experience with one of these? If so, what do you think of it for a home defense weapon?

It's what I use for HD. I love it. I've got a Blackhawk 3 point sling, Tacstar side saddle and an ATI pistol grip stock.
Plan on getting the Surefire Weaponlight for it as some point.

Good choice. I've used them in all flavors and they have yet to disappoint me. The setup just mentioned is good but I prefer the normal buttstock. Its all personal preference. The pistol grip will not make an intruder any more or less dead.

Very true, I just like the control I have over the gun with the pistol grip. That's all.

I love mine.I've had some rust issues, but other than that it's a great gun.I keep mine close at hand for HD.

I bought one today with the extended mag tube for $299. Probably not a steal, but I didn't have a lot of time. 7 shots total. For the money, I think it's a lot of gun.

Don't feel bad. I live in Eureka, CA and the sale price is usually around $310 just for the shotgun. I got the extended tube too but that was aftermarket. My next "to do" for my 870 is refinishing in OD. It really needs to be refinished. I'll post pictures in the club picture thread when its done.
Thanks for the responses. Sounds like everyone is happy with their 870s. I also just stumbled onto a link to a Remington 1100 tactical. I need to find some more info on these. I have had great experiences with the 1100s.

I've had my Express model now for the better part of five years, It's never failed me. $299.00 is a very average price for this model on sale, so you did good. Just a good working, no non-sense shotgun at a good price.

I just had my dealer order a 1100 tactical...I'll post comments once I have a few hundred rounds through it. I had a tricekd out 870 I sold in deference to a 11-87Police. I still have a stock 870 Express and a 11-87SPS. The 11-87P handicapped me a bit too much in 3-gun competition, the 1100 Tactical is about the best auto-loader for the money in a tactical configuration...take a look...

I just got one today, $285 + tax for blk, synth. stock, 6 rnd mag. I had a 1100 years ago and it was a great, reliable gun. I'm sure the 870 will be too!
MarkCO, did you ever get that 1100 tactical?
