Well I got underway on my 870 project yesterday. Current status is:

New 870 express
New Wilson magazine tube extension
New Knoxx SpecOps on order from Cabelas

I also did a dimple-ectomay on an older 870 and it turned out just so-so. I used a socket inside the mag tube to tap out the dimples, it looks ok, but I think I tweaked the mag tube. For the new gun I'm going to take some advice from over at the Shotgun forums and drill them out.

I'll post some pictures as I get things done.

Looks good, drilling really is the way to go to get the dimples out. Let us know how tou like that stock when it comes in.

What size bit do you use to get the dimples out?

I used a quarter inch bit. It is going to require some dremel work to get the inside smooth enough for the follower to go past it. I will post pics of that once I do it.

The stock was dropped off by UPS late yesterday evening so I should be able to install it and be able to shoot it this weeked.

forgive me but why drill out the dimples? I dont know what they do and I'm wondering what advantage it give you? Again sorry for the silly question but thats how we learn.

Remington puts dimples in many non-extended (i.e. 4 shot) mag tubes on its Express line of 870s. The dimples prevent you from adding a mag tube extension to the mag tube and thus prevent you from increasing maazine capacity. Of course, the ingenious gun owning public has come up with ways to remove the dimples so that extended mag tubes can be used. One way to remove the dimples is to drill them out as shown above.

Sorry about being away so long. I am in the process of changing jobs and haven't been at the computer much.

I took the gun to the range and ran a couple of boxes through it and the stock worked as advertised. The recoil was much reduced.

I will say that you have to be aggresive on when you pump it. The stock gives the gun a little bounce which if you have any back pressure on the slide, it moves about half way. I think it will just be a matter of timing to get it down.

I didn't shoot more than the two boxes because the feed system on my 870 started hanging up and I had to take it to the smith.
