I have seen the Tac Star Side Saddles on Gunbroker for about $22.00. Brownells has Wilson Side Saddles for about $35. I hear Remington also makes their version. Any thoughts as to which is the best?

I dont have any experience with the others but I can say I ended up taking the Tac star one off of my Winchester. It didnt ever seem to fit right and it came loose twice while shooting magnum buckshot loads, scratching up my gun. After the second time, I didnt trust it anymore. Maybe others have had better luck, I do shoot the gun alot.

The Wilson Combat are made by Tacstar. They even say Tacstar instead of Wilson. The only difference is the price.

Anyone else had reliability problems with a Side Saddle?

I have a tacstar on my 870, never had any issues with it other than a blister I get on the top of my trigger finger from striking the plastic portion of the side saddle.

Being left handed my trigger finger is uncomfortably close to the side saddle, and during recoil my finger strikes it every time, gets painful after a while.

Planning on getting one of THESE (link) (http://www.mesatactical.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_35&products_id=79) to replace my current tacstar side saddle. They are pricey ($65), but from what I have heard they are the best around and worth the price.

Mesa Tactical makes great ALUMINUM (or steel, not sure) side saddles that should hold up better to banging around in your Humvees!
4 or 6 rounders. I personally use a butt cuff on mine since my dept, issue 870 is set up this way. Muscle memory while reloading is crucial and this is where I reach for more rounds. I don't care for the side saddles anyway. They look cool, but tent to tip the gun to the left due to the weight. I've also seen saddles wear the receiver holes in several shotguns into an egg shape due to the recoil and the mounting pins slamming back and forth. Takes ALOT of shooting to ruin a receiver, but I'll stick with my butt cuff.

I've had good luck with my TacStar sidesaddle. I just made sure to clean and loc-tite all the screws when I installed it, and I have had no problems at all.

Good advice. Thats what I did and have never had a problem. I like mine very much

As mentioned, a little loctite cures the problem of screws backing out.
That said, no issues with TacStar on Mossy 590A1/Rem 870 BUT a few issues with a Benelli M1 that did not always cycle properly with the sidesaddle attached. Removed it and the gun was back to 100%. Must have been the extra weight (?) but not sure.

I have the Tac-Star's on 2 870's, and they work for me. Loc-tite is indeed your friend :f

Buddy bought a Mesa, and that thing is too cool! Not real fond of the itty-bitty mounting screws, though. Tiny hex-heads tend to round out.:(

I have a tac-star on my 500, use lok-tite and it's fine.

The Mesa Tactical side saddles are suppose to be very good. I am thinking about buying one. I find it a bit pricey at $60, but the best normally costs more money.

I use the sidesaddles from the guys at 3 gun gear. It secures with an adhesive piece of the fuzzy side of a velcro patch on the gun with the velcro on the carrier and you can get the sidesaddle anywhere from 6 - 11 rounds depending on your shotgun.

I like the fact that I can just take off the extra rounds when not needed and I don't risk over tightening the screw when installing it. I did that on a Benelli that I had and caused myself all kinds of grief. The patch has a hole in it for the take down pin pre cut so it doesn't make take down a pain.

You can look at them at http://www.3gungear.com

The price is right too at $20.00.
