Patton’s Manservant?

While watching the movie “Patton” I began to wonder if Patton or all high ranking officers had servants and if they did were the servants members of the armed forces?

I seem to recall mention of the navy using large numbers of Filipinos as aides or servants?

Was this SOP during WW11? If so, when did this practice stop? When I was in the army (1959-1962) RHIP (rank hath it’s privileges) still held sway.

Just curious if anyone here knows the answer or where I might look for more info on this.

They still do to a point. They have their own cooks, drivers, gophers, etc.

Still there, and it's not a bad idea.

Even the 4-star only has 24 hours in a day. I'd rather have the boss use his time to slap staff weenies into line, or work the bus out of the next battle plan, instead of folding his socks and pressing his blouse.
