View Full Version : KY Imports 870's
I see KY Imports has Remington 870 LE Trade-ins listed at $169.99 and $189.99. Anyone try one of these? Looking for some info before I order one. Who else has 870 LE trade-ins?
Having dealt with Ky. Imports as a dealer, I have found their "grading" to be iffy at best.
If they say VG-to-excellent don't be shocked to recieve something of lesser condition. Fot the price of those 870's I would think they are pretty beat but YMMV.

I picked up 1 today--870 Police Magnum, for $201 out the door. Smooth action, tight lock-up, wood looks rough but still very servicable. Will make a great HD/trunk gun. Like Leigh said, it is best if you can pick through to find the one you want. Some were 870 Wingmaster receivers, some were Magnum receivers, the one I got was the only Police Magnum I saw--but I didn't look at all of them.

Thanks for the input. I am not worried about the wood, I will end up refinishing it anyway. I am going to call them and see if they will hand pick me one.

Let us know what you decide. I too will be replacing the wood eventually, but for now it will do.
gruntmedik,
How would you grade the finish of the steel?
Were they blued/parkerized or both and many were you able to pick from?

I'll try to put a pic or 2 up tonight. They prolly had 15-20 to choose from, but like I said, there were Wingmaster, and Magnum receivers mixed, some wood, some synthetic. Some 3" chambered barrels on Wingmaster frames--no good unless it is a magnum receiver--it should have an "M" at the end of the SN#, or be marked "Magnum" on the left side of the receiver.

Here are some pics. It has obviously been used, but is quite servicable--I have plans...

Thanks for the pics!
That one looks just fine for a beater/trunk/project gun and the price is right.
I ran across som Ithaca 37 police trade-ins a few years ago...looked about the same externally but a field strip showed very LITTE wear to the internals. I would guess those 870's are about the same.

My thoughts exactly.
gruntmedik that is my favorite wood for these guns + a mag reciver! I'd say that was a steal. BTW Leigh I love 37's and have been looking for a sporter and a behind the door gun for forever! I wish you would have bought a couple I would have gladly bought one off ya!....

I'd like to find a 37 in decent shape too. My dad had Ithaca's, so I've got a soft spot for them.
IIRC, those 37's were also from KY Imports and going for 169.00 or so! Parkerized, bead sights, no extended mag tubes. Wood maybe a hair less dinged. VERY smooth for only one action/slide bar, too.
As a side note, in the early 80's LAPD did a "torture test" with 870's/37's and possibly Winchester/Mossberg (not sure about that last part) and the 37's had less parts breakage than the 870's over 'x' number of rounds fired. I believe they still issue the 37 riot gun to this day. Not that one is superior to the other, just interesting.

They didn't have any:frown:
Thanks for the report gruntmedik, nice score! I requested pics or more info from KY and got no response. Sounds like an "in person" kind of place.

:wavey: I think it is an "in person" place. They have alot of trade-ins and used firearms, and I would be hesitant about buying something used sight unseen--but that is for anywhere, not just there.

Hate to dig an old thread up, but I purchased one of these guns in the 2 3/4" with a Wingmaster receiver. The wood really suprised me when I opened the box. The barrel is parked, and the receiver has a gray finish chipping off of it, but it will do for a rebuild.

I have a good friend that has a store-front gunshop, that purchased 30 police trade-in handguns from KY Imports, a while back.
Out of the 30 revolvers, you couldn't make 3 good ones from all of the parts. (That's how BAD the condition of the guns were!)
My friend tried everything possible to contact KY. He even shipped them back within three days of taking possession of them, and KY Imports REFUSED to accept them back!
I have done business with KY Imports in the past, but no more.
The bottom line. . . . Caveat emptor. (Buyer beware).
