I am trying to research a Model 11 that was given to me by my grandfather. I did not know the importance of this gun until I did a search yesterday, so now I am trying to find out as much as possible.
By looking at Remington's history section (a great feature of their site) I discovered that this was the first autoloading shotgun produced in the US. I also found the serial number rage for the 12ga to start at 10,000. The serial number on mine is a low one at 33,xxx so I am trying to figure out a possible production year. Can anyone help me with that, or point me to a site that will date the number?
My other question involves the Grades. How do I tell what grade it is? I figured the letter would be displaied after the model number, but it was not. Any tips?
I will try to get some pics up, but the gun in in my dad's safe at the moment.
The model 11 is a Browning design by Remington. It was commonly called the American Browning. The grades were the Special-- Higher grade wood and hand checkered stock and forearm, The Tournament, the expert, and the Premier. All the grades differ in the quality, wood grade, and engraving. Only the higher grades are worth much money.About 300,000 were made by Remington. It is tough to say what grade you have or what it is worth without any pictures. Just do a search online for the model 11 and you will find quite a bit. Also check out the blue book of gun values and you will find values. Good luck finding information. I find that researching old guns is alot of fun and makes them mean more to me after I buy them.

I tried doing a search earlier in the week, but really didn't find much. The most helpful thing led me to the Remington site's history section. I have emailed remington with the serial number to see if they can tell me more about it. Hopefully I will have some pics to share later.
Thanks for the help.

Here you go.

I found an old Model 11 in a gunshop in Oklahoma City a few years back. It was in great shape and came with a leg-o-lamb leather case.
It did not appear to have been used very much and had most likely set in a closet for many years.
This old gun has character. I plan to use it on quail after I retire.
As you may know, Remington was building the Model 11 from Browning's plans. Later they came up with their own design so they wouldn't have to pay Browning. I think most if not all parts will interchange with the Browning Humpback.

Thanks for the link, I will have to check the barrel to see if it is dated. I am kind of doubting it though as that chart only goes back to '21. I'm guessing that my 11 is older than that unless they didn't make very many each year. The serial number range on remington is from 10,000-510,750 from 1905 to 1947. My number places the gun as the 23,xxx gun off the line so you would think that it was made in the first few years of production, rather than 16+ years in. I could be very easily wrong on this if only a few thousand were made each year (somewhere around 1,500 might make it possible).
Hopefully Remington will get back with me soon with some details on it. They should be able to tell me all about it baised on the serial number.

Remington dated it as being produced in or around 1906! I am still waiting about the grade information though.
