View Full Version : CCW: 75B(D) vs P-01
Soon I will buy a "do-it-all" gun for the range, home defense, and CCW. I really like the P-01, as it seems to be the best compromise gun. I think I'll end up buying that model However, I could get a 75BD for a lower price, which = lots of ammo and/or range time. Price difference is ~75 dollars in my case, but POTENTIALLY a $125 difference. Price-matching at a certain large sporting goods chain can be a good thing... :)
Does anyone carry a full-size CZ 9mm or comparable gun? How much real world difference will there be in concealing a full-size vs a compact? The dimensions on czusa.com show slightly under an inch difference in length, and not much difference at all in height. Of course there is a weight difference d/t steel vs alloy construction, but my carry time wouldn't be nearly all the time d/t workplace restrictions and frequent long hours.
I guess I'm basically waiting for someone to push me in either direction. Thoughts?
depends on if you'll use the rail or not, that would be the deciding factor i would think. $125 is a lot of ammo....
the idea of a rail has the neato factor, but i doubt i'd ever use it.

It's more than jus the rail -- there's a noticeable size difference between the full-size 75 and the P01. The full-size is pretty tough to conceal. Not impossible, but tough. The P01 is designed to be carried concealed and I think you'll find quite a difference.
I ran across something similar between my Walther P99 and the P99 Compact. Although the numbers don't show it, the actual difference in concealment and comfort is huge.
There's also a difference in how the two guns feel. Personally, the P01 didn't fit my hand as well as the CZ 75BD did. I wasn't planning to use it for CCW, so that wasn't a factor in my decision. I chose the full-size because it felt better for me.
Hope this helps,
Jim
It kind of depends on how big you are. I can carry a full size gun easily, and I usually do, but the P01 is more comfortable in the long run especially if you are going to be sitting very much, or course it depends on the holster your usuing. About the only thing your sacrificing is 1" of site radius, which you probably won't need in a self defense weapon.

i'm 6'2" and 180lbs. does that make it easier or more difficult to conceal? :)
if money weren't the concern, i'd just go for the p-01. i've waited this long, i guess i could just save up, huh?
thanks for replies so far everyone.
i'm 6'5, 195lbs and the P-01 disappears even when i have a t-shirt on. just make sure you get a dependable rig for carrying. that can make all the difference.
Handle both guns prior to any purchase.
For me, the alloy frame of the P01 sold me on it instantly.
Very few pistols have ever had the combination of balance and fit for me.

I own both so my advise is get both. I really wouldn't part with either one.

You may want to look for the 75D Compact (PCR). It's basically the same size as the P-01 minus the rail on the dustcover. From what I've heard, they can be had for quite a bit less than the P-01, and the ergonomics are the same.
Hey all, I finally manned up and bought a P-01. Love it so far, but haven't shot it yet. :) Thanks for the advice.
Mine has the NSN number on the right side. I think I read that's kinda rare to find now. Comments?
