View Full Version : spring question
What do you guys recomend for a recoil spring for my g19. I plan on competing in IPSC and I want to get a new guide rod, and recoil spring.
Can I shoot factory ammo out of a reduced power recoil spring? What about +p ammo?
Also I plan on ordering a reducing power firing pin spring, and a competition trigger spring from glockmiester.
Is their competition trigger spring lighter or heavier than stock?

---Welcome to USPSA/IPSC shooting! Your 19 is good to go as is. I wouldn't recommend changing a bunch of parts. Spend time on ammo, practice and some books/videos/instruction (ie Brian Enos's book, dryfire books, etc.) As for recoil springs there is a good article at customglock.com

----factory ammo should be fine. In my 34 I run factory ammo and handloads equally fine. +p might go too fast with a light recoil spring and overrun your mag springs.

--The comp. trigger spring is heavier, it pulls back on the trigger more to lighten the trigger pull slightly.

I'd go to a recoil spring 2 lbs lighter than factory. I don't have a lot of experience with Glocks, but lighter generally means softer recoil and better sight return. The word on the street is you need to drop the recoil spring weight if you install a light striker spring.
I'm using a 13 lb spring on my G35 for both major and minor loads.
I would not recommend changing the recoil assembly. My personal experience with the aftermarket rods/springs ended up meaning UNRELIABLE FIREARM.
My opinion is what good is a little less recoil gonna do me if the gun doesn't go BANG every time?

Try a ISMI captured guide rod w/a 15# ISMI spring.

I have a non-captured tungsten guide rod and 15# spring in my G35. Works great with my reloads that are running about 173-174 pf.
