View Full Version : Whick Glock for shooting pins?
A few local ranges have Bowling Pin shoots once or twice a month. I think I'd like to give it a try. Anyone out there shoot pins? Which Glock do you use? Right now I have a 26, 19, and a 17. Will 9mm topple pins? I also have a 30 which I shoot pretty well out to 21 feet, which may not be much use for pins, unless of course they are set up at 21 feet.
It depends on how the course is set up. Do they have tables where you have to physically push the pins back 3 feet before it falls off? Or are they using a sawhorse or something similar, where you simply have to knock the pin over?
If a sawhorse setup, go with whichever gun you shoot the best. Of those listed, I'd use a g17.
However, if they use a table you will want as much bullet mass as you can get. The .45 ACP is an excellent round for pushing pins back off of a table. Go slow and get good solid hits.
For pins, I use either a .45 or a 10mm.
we have 2 types of matches. "sawhorse" and "table".
for sawhorse I use a G34 with loads that make about a 130pf.
Table I use a G35 with 200gr lead reloads pushing 160pf. No real reason to go any more powerful.
of the ones you listed stick with the G17
.45 is THE pin gun. Of course as mentioned above if you are just shooting them off of rails/sawhorses, then the 9mm will work fine.
G21 and G37 are my pin guns
Thanks for all of the useful feedback. I went to a shoot today and I started a new thread titled "Shot my first pin match and..." since it seemed appropriate.

With a 17 use a heavy bullet 147 grain.
I use a .40 when shooting pins and 180 grain bullets.
