I posed this question in the Kahr section, but have had no direct answers to my question. Wondering if any smiths in here could give me a rough idea weather or not this is ok specs. I will take a section of my original post and quote it below:
Ok I finally picked up a nice feeler gauge.
My Kahr Arms P9 (fired case dated 02-23-2006) picked up at FFL on March 2nd, 2006, is having more issues.
It is still shooting 100% with great accuracy, I might add. However, the marks on the barrel hood are no longer marks and are now actually deformations. My barrel is peening. I can see a sharp edge rising each range session. I hate to see what another 500 rounds is going to do. In addition I noted after todays session (brings total round count up to 800) the slide to frame fit is even looser ;P
When I got this P9 it was super tight, I think it is too loose, but I want to compare to others out there. So those of you that have a gauge, lets measure the gap between the frame and slide.
Mine is as follows.
rear of slide: .584 mm/ .023 inches
front of slide: .711 mm/.028 inches
This is with no mag in and the slide in battery. In the front I am able to slide the gauge all the way through the gun, so the slide is not rocking left and right at all.
Now, if I shake the gun it rattles. Just wondering if this is the norm. Especially interested in hearing from guys with P series that have no peening or other issues. Wondering if a bunch of things on mine are out of spec?
FWIW I was told by Kahr that:
"In terms of the slide fit, it is a function of the polymer and humidity.
Polymer absorbs moisture. In humidity it expands and in dryness it
contracts. What you are experiencing is quite normal."
Thanks for any input.
