View Full Version : Recommend the best 10mm carry load.
Ok, what is the best 10mm protection round? I know everyone loves double tap.. are they the best out there? Others? What specific doubletap round do you recommend?
I haven't recieved my G20 yet, but I am going to start with the 180 grain DT Gold dots. .96 expansion in gelatin. Although I think it penetrates quite deep. Alot of people seem to like the 135 grain Gold Dot for Home/PP defense.
DoubleTap in 135Gr - maximum energy at decent (but not excessive) penetration.
Ready for the next question, this one has been answered! :)

I carried Hornady's 200gr XTP. Recoil is no big deal, deep penetration, some expansion.
Whatever your looking for, there is a 10mm load that will do it!
I like DT's 165gr Golden Sabre @ 1425fps.

I carry DT 165gr. Gold Dots. and For my home DT 135gr NJHP's
I prefer a defense loading less than full-house. I find the mid-loadings more comfortable to shoot and quicker on the follow up. Plus they're easier on the gun and the shooter and still retain superior ballistics... for me, the 175 gr. Silvertip traveling at about 1220 or the 180 gr. Hornady XTP moving at 1220 is an ideal balance of penetration and expansion. I am of the heavier bullet/better penetration camp when it comes to choosing defense ballistics..

I'm with DHart on this one. I think the studies show that midrang 10s and full power 10s are about the same at stopping badguys. But the midrange rounds are a lot more controllable, follow ups are fast and accurate. The percentage of missed in a gunfight is pretty high what with everybody moving and freaking out while trying to shoot the other guy. I don't want to make that situation worse by making it take longer to get the next shot off.
WW silver tips are good for carry, easier to purchase, 2nd would be Hornady 180 XTP, cant go wrong, try a few boxes at the range, find one that is accurate, low flash, recovery time for a 2nd hit. Cheers and enjoy.
Depends:
Inside the condos--DT Equalizer.
Outside--DT GoldDots or Silvertips.
Woods--DT XTPs.

I like the DT 200 XTP. I'm generally more concerned with not having enough penetration rather than too much. The 200XTP from Double Tap eliminates that concern and serves well as both a carry round and woods round.
