View Full Version : Shot my first pin match and...
...I sure hope I'm never attacked by an angry mob of bowling pins! Hitting all of those pins isn't as easy as it looks!
The good news is, while my time wasn't stellar I had a lot of fun and plan to try again next time. I've been shooting at paper targets for about 4 years and though I was pretty good. Amazing what's revealed when you step outside of your comfort zone.
I used my Glock 17 (because that's all I had with me) which seemed sufficient for the pins set up on rails. Hitting the pins was the issue, and I can safely say my misses were due to trying too hard; shooting too fast.
I still might talk myself into buying a Glock 21. I've shot one a few times and find it quite manageable. I'm not sure yet if I want to buy a gun just for shooting at pins.
I may give GSSF a try, too.
First it was pin shoots, then I found GSSF, THEN I found USPSA...
Oh man these shooting games are too much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hooked.

actually going to shoot my first pin match tonight. I am looking forward to shooting something different. Wish me luck, Lord only knows I need it. (like I need another shooting sport, apparently IDPA, TSA, Steel etc, aren't enough)

Well, I shot my first pin match last night and I must say I loved it. The pins are truly unforgiving, lol. Probably the most fun I have had shooting from a stationary position at a non moving target. I like that it is instant feedback on your shots, kind of like steel in that respect. JR and his bunch at Caswells Shooting Range in Mesa, AZ put on a great match. If you are out in Mesa on the 4th Sunday of the month try this out, new shooters are always welcome.

Deb, I was there also at Caswells for the pin match, it was fun
I placed 15 in the Match how did you do? I hope to see you again there. This was my first Pin match there. You have to try JR IDPA match that is a blast. Look foward to seeing you.

Hi Vic,
well I placed 17th, first pin match ever, shot a borrowed gun(my 1911 needs sights), and didn't want to shoot my Glock (9mm). I am going to try JR's IDPA match next month but with the 6 or so matches that I shoot at Phoenix Rod and Gun that might be pushing my limits..lol
Come on out and give us a try at PR&G. We have a evening match every Tuesday (sign in around 5pm) we have lights for when the sun goes down, really different under the lights. We also have weekend matches (IDPA, USPSA, TSA etc.) Please vist our web page (link in my signature line). When you come to the range ask for Debra,(that way I can put a face to the name) they know me there;)

I shoot pins every Thursday night, what a blast!
I am using a G30 at the moment, great little gun and very accurate.
I began practicing at home in my garage with an airsoft, and I am seeing a big improvement in my shooting.
I cut out little pins from some of that corrugated plastic stuff and shoot them off of a board. It's almost more fun than the real thing!
