I bought a 870 to keep next to the bed; what options are there to secure it when I'm at work?

I'm not so much concerned about theft as I am with unauthorized persons (like curious grand kids) messing with it. Thanks.

I can't really afford a gun safe yet. A lockable case was all I came up with.

Never used or seen one in person but saw these on Mossberg's site a few years ago.

These work well:

it can be bolted to a wall stud or you can use a heavy cable with a lock to temporarily secure it to some immovable object.

When I am not home, my shotgun and the rest of my firearms stay in my safe.

I live alone and the Mossy 500 lives next to the closet door, against the door's knob, by my bed. I cover it with a flanel shirt when guests come over, no one has noticed yet.

Spend 5 bucks and get a trigger lock on it. No kid in the world can get one of them off without totally destroying the gun!

My 870 came with the crossbolt lock on it. I stick the silly little key in there and lock the safety on and I am good to go.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to pick up a trigger lock. Cheap & effective!

I put together an electronic keypad and an electronic lock like the kind they use in the cruisers...bolted to the wall...it's very fast and has a key backup should the power fail...thinking of adding a battery backup as a third option...but then I'm a techno-geeck so....

well since you asked :laughabove:
actually I did look into a fingerprint reader, but it was too slow and I found that I liked the pin/numberic keypad idea better...that way my wife and I can just use numbers that we will remember...actually the whole unit only cost me $80...but I wouldn't have played with the electronics if I couldn't have a key backup that would work 100% of the time :)

Don't leave it loaded with a trigger lock on it. Really not that hard to take the safety off and get the thing to fire with a trigger lock on it.
