View Full Version : Parkerized Finish Wearing on my G20

I have a variety of holsters for my G20 and wondering if Glock warranties their parkerized finish.
The problem is my parkerized finish is wearing fairly bad on both sides at the front portion of my slide. It was caused by carry in my Fobus kydex hip-holster. It would be pushing it to say the pistol has been in and out of the kydex holster 50 times.
Needless to say I am not happy about this and am wondering if Glock can/would do anything about it. I know ultimately I am going to have to call Glock, but am curious as to whether anyone else has had the same problem and what was the outcome.

I have not seen a Glock with a Parkerized finish.

Man! Don't I feel like the idiot... You are right. I don't know why I said "parkerized" as Glocks have the metal treated with a Tenifer process. I am not sure but I think the actual finish is a phosphate coating. May be wrong on that one, but anyway, I wonder if Glock stands behind a problem such as mine. For example, the pistol is 15 months old and the finish is wearing off after only about 50 draws from the Fobus Kydex holster.
Thanks for the heads-up on the "parkerized" error in my previous post.
Never hurts to ask, I think I read that Glock charges around $60.00 to refinish the slide.
Sounds to me your beef should be with Fobus.

The black is simply some kind of -oxide coating .... it has no bearing on the corrosion resistance that the Tenifer offers. The Tenifer is baked INTO the finish and has no color, thus the black is just for show.
Glock will even refinish your slide for a nominal cost if you don't like the look of it.

I was under the impression that Tenifer was in the metal, not the finish.

Good catch.... I misquoted that part. You are correct, its baked into the metal.

Get a leather holster. Kydex is "fast" but if you like your finishes looking nice then soft leather against hard tenifer sounds better than hard kydex against against hard tenifer, Screeeeeeeeeeech. I've kept my g20 in a couple of leather holsters for over 2 years and over 1,000 draws and the only wear marks are from when I went camping once and kept it in a kydex holster. Kydex+dirt+glock=scratches.
I too have the Fobus shine. Has anyone experimented with removing the "oxide" coating on the slide and just left it in the white? With corrosion resistance baked into the metal, this may eliminate the Fobus wear marks.
