7.62x39 Chinese or Hungarian: Opinions

I have recently seen the available 7.62x39 ammo in my area. They are made in China and Hungary. The Chinese made ammo have a copper washed shell while the Hungary made ammo shell is made of brass. Both are FMJ and have non-painted primers. I did notice the primers on the Chinese made ammo had a relatively flat profile (not the rounded shoulders on typical primers).

Can I have your comments of these 2 types of 7.62x39 ammo.

That's a great little site RECON!!

Do you know if Hungarian ammo is like Yugo M67 ammo and breaks in half at the cannelure after penetration creating a huge wound?

I know that Steel Core stuff just zips through without doing nearly as much damage but it can poke a deep hole in an old car or some trees.

Type 56 is the fullauto version of the AK47S.

I had a Golden State Arms imported AK47S that had Type 56 markings so they just have a different name for it.


Type 56S/2 is a sidefolder version that was extremely neat.

I was able to correspond w/ Mr. Bob Weir of Ace and he mentioned that they have a steel folding stock that is bolt on for a type 56 Chinese AK47. I plan to replace the wooden furniture and also get forearm stock w/ rails for handle and flashlight attachment.
