Where are the 17L/24s being shot in?

Trying to figure out the niche the long slides like the 17L and 24 fit in. Pins? Comp? Open?

(side note: I'm trying to justify in my mind the need to shoot my 24 versus the 35)

Don't see any locally, but I hear of those making 17's and 24's into USPSA open guns.

They dont make good open guns, long heavy slide is makes for sloppy transitions and finicky comps.

I guess a 17L would go there too, but would shoot minor
