OK the good news is my loving wife bought me an 870 marine for x-mas.
 :music:

now the bad news:

the knurled cap which retains the barrel and extended magazine doesn't pickup the threads on the magazine, the barrel bracket seems to block the cap from fully engaging the threads.

what I've done is reverse the cap and now it picks up the threads and secures the barrel etc...but it looks funny (odd).

should I try a new cap?, just live with it?, what?

I would call Remington and have them fix it. I've never seen that happen before.

Are you 100% sure the barrel in fully seated in the reciever? Was the nut loose when you got it, or did you take it apart and now have this problem? If it's always been that way, then contact Remington.

Yes the barrel is fully seated, and yes it came this way.

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't check this before I fired it the first time. Imagine my chagrin as after a couple of shots I racked the slide and the barrel fell off, spring flew from the magazine, shells dribbled out the end and the air turned blue from my cursing.

It was quite the Elmer Fudd moment.

Thanks for your help folks.
