Shortening Chrome-lined barrel

I have a Benelli 12 guage with a chrome-lined barrel. If Benelli doesn't start selling the 14" entry barrel before my Class III papers arrive in 3-4 months, I am going to have it cut down. My barrel has the Ghost-ring sights. The front sight will have to be moved rearward about 4 inches or so. Does anybody know how the sight is attached? Silver-solder? Brazed? And what about the heat? Can chrome be damaged by the heat from re-attaching the sight? I have no experience with chrome. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have shortened an SKS (chrome-lined) and then oxy/actelene welded the front sight back on.

Cleaned it and shot it and the chrome seems just fine. I can see no issues.
