On most all of my 10mm Star-Line empty brass, there is a noticable bulge on the side of the brass near the primer end. Shot through G20 with a stock barrel. Anything to be concerned about?

Case bulge is good sign pressures are way up and on the way to brass failure..... got pics? Glockman454 04-01-2006, 10:29 Originally posted by G20man32904 YES! I threw them out after inspection. Safe to say 8 of 10 were bulged. My Glock has never had lead shot threw it, it is barely 15 months old and is emaculately cleaned and lubed even if only shot once. I shot some standard Remington 180Gr. FMJ and no case bulges at all. I will contact DT and see what Mike says. G20man32904 04-01-2006, 12:19 Have no fear Gman. If it's Mike's ammo, he will make it right. It's funny but my second gen G20 has almost no case support but my third gen G20C has great support. Almost as good as my KKM barrel. So I retired the second gen to gun games or shoot it with the KKM for hot stuff..... gimme a minute and I'll grab a pic. G20man32904 04-01-2006, 12:48 Ok here goes: L to R KKM, 3rd gen G20C, 2nd Gen G20, and G29 Federal. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/g20man/DSC00175.jpg That is the order of case support as well. the 2 in the middle look very close, but, I can go with much hotter loads many more times with the "C" barrel. Tried to get a better pic of the middle 2 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/g20man/DSC00178.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/g20man/DSC00181.jpg HTH Ask Mike if he thinks you should call or email Glock about this as well. Maybe take a pic of your case head support to help your cause a little. Blooptube 04-01-2006, 17:08 What ammo were you using ? Or if reloads, what weight bullet and powder / charge ?? ColoradoGlocker 04-02-2006, 00:52 . DavidinSA 04-02-2006, 11:49 Hey everyone, Not trying to hijack this thread but my question is relative to the original post. Does anyone know where I can get the machining specs for the Glock barrels? Just finished 500rds of 5 different brands through my G20 including some Corbon loads (no DT's yet, my order is in the mail) and all have a noticeable "bulge" towards the rear of the case. Also, the "bulge" is roughly 360 degrees around the case and farther away from the primer end than the "unsupported" part of the chamber. (I will be paying more attention to this and start taking some measurements to document). This makes sense to me though because the case fit in the chamber is very loose at the primer end. I have not taken measurements to profile my chamber yet but plan to do so. FYI, I am using a 24# recoil spring which should hold the case in a little longer before cycling, causing an increase in pressure buildup. How much, I don't know. I would have to do some calculations and would need more data on pressure rise times/powder burn times. I'm not that concerned about the bulge since I do not shoot reloads but I am now very curious. Anyway, any info on getting specs would be appreciated. Thanks David A heavier spring will have no effect on pressure. Glocks are locked breach pistols and do not unlock until the bullet is out of the bore. RayRevolver 04-03-2006, 00:00 These 4 were the worst offenders. They were left out in the mud and rain for a few days. The one on the far right was the worst. Others were bulged a bit, and some not at all. Should I not shoot this ammo anymore? http://wolfenstein-racing.com/images/bulge1.JPG http://wolfenstein-racing.com/images/bulge2.JPG Masque 04-03-2006, 12:01 Odd. I thought DT moved to nickel-plated brass some months ago. cookand 04-03-2006, 17:30 Originally posted by Masque Odd. I thought DT moved to nickel-plated brass some months ago. I got some 357 Sig ammo in January and it was brass. Just recieved some 10mm and it was nickel. G36's Rule 04-08-2006, 10:46 Originally posted by RayRevolver Should I not shoot this ammo anymore? http://wolfenstein-racing.com/images/bulge2.JPG I think the resounding answer to that would be, HELL NO, DON'T SHOOT ANY MORE OF THAT AMMO. Crazy Ed 04-09-2006, 02:19 Does anyone know if the 3gen Glock 20 has improved case support over previous? Ed DavidinSA 04-09-2006, 09:23 I have a new G20 and I don't think so but have no data to back that up. Currently I am in the process of looking into the chamber specifications/dimensions of the various barrels. With school I am kind of busy but will be able to spend more time this summer. I will post results when I get them. David chief_017 04-09-2006, 20:10 so if I get bulging with the 4 different types of ammo that I've tried out of my 29 I should contact Glock? noway 04-09-2006, 20:53 :stop: Did you check you glock out with glock/usa? I had big bugles in my stock glock with std ammo ( light years before DT/ammo ). I sent my gun and glock replace the bbl with a newer bbl and this solved my bulging brass. btw: my g20 serial number was in the BNS range. chief_017 04-10-2006, 18:18 what do you mean check it out w/ glock/usa? noway 04-11-2006, 20:46 Call in to glock-usa, give them your model and serial# and they will tell you if a recall was issued for a barrel upgrade based on that information. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
