I just picked up another Ak, this time getting a Yugo AK. The question I have is this....the underfolding stock on this rifle has some "Play" in it. When it is opened and you are aiming, you can move the rifle up and down a little less than 1/4 inch. Now, I have shot it some, and it doesnt really bother the shooting, or the aiming....but is it normal or will it get worse?
Thanks for any info!
The only AK I have ever shot with a under folding stock was a pre-ban Norinco. It locked up tight with no play in it. My uncle has had it for many years an it has always locked up perfect.
I checked out one of the Century Arms Yugo M-70 underfolders today at my local shop. It locked up tight with no play so I would guess that your problem is not normal. Is it a Century. I read somewhere that they have a 1 year warranty.

It will loosen up in time. 1/4 inch is a lot of play for a new rifle.
Chinese rifles use a different locking system than the Yugo and all other European AKM pattern rifles. The Chinese is the same as the milled receiver AK.
Now onto the technical part, or the how-to-fix-it :
- push button and unlock stock
- push stock in, or out, half-way, so the locking half of the stock on the RIGHT side( ejection port side ) pops up
- look at the right side of the assembly, you will see a nut with holes in it; two of the holes have a pin going through them ( in one and out the other
- holding stock at halfway, take a small punch ( the one in your cleaning kit works OK ) and push pin up and out ( from the bottom ). Do not lose pin. Mark the top hole with white-out, sharpie, whatever
- take punch and insert just the tip of it in the marked hole. Turn nut clockwise until the next hole.
- lock stock in open position and check for tightness. If it is still loose, get stock back into halfway so the right lock opens, and turn another hole. Do not overtighten the nut to where the stock takes effort to lock and unlock, or you will put great strain on the receiver and moving parts in the underfolder assembly.
- when you get the stock as tight as it needs to be, put the stock in halfway and make sure the 3 holes ( top hole on the nut, bottom hole on the nut, and the big hole in the shaft the nut threads onto ) are lined up by inserting the pin punch in the top hole. It should come out the bottom hole; if it doesn't, wiggle it around until it does.
Insert pin from TOP, all the way through. You might need to beat it in slightly to get it to go, but use a different, thicker punch as you WILL bend/break the one in the cleaning kit if you whack it around.
HTH .
YMMV .
Good information graveman....thanks

You're welcome.
Maybe one of these days I'll get a site up with little stuff like this ( check other posts for "step-by-step bolt dissassembly" ).
