Recently I have been having problems with my slide momentarily locking to the rear. This is happening when I pull my slide back without a mag in the grip and sometimes even happens while I am pulling back on the slide to chamber my first round.
For a brief time I was running G17 magazines through the weapon.
Somebody out there give me a hand.

Clearly something screwy with your Slide stop lever. Have you had it apart recently?
Take off the slide and lift up on and release the Slide stop lever. It should snap, as Butch says, "smartly" back down.
If it doesn't, it's either been installed wrong or the spring bent, bound or broken. Remember always Locking block pin, then slide stop lever then Trigger pin.
Most commonly this happens because you took out the locking block pin (top pin of the 2 above the trigger) and put it back in with the slide stop spring going over the top of the pin, instead of under it. Make sure the spring goes under the locking block pin.

It's either that or it's broke.
Usually when the S/R spring breaks during a firing string, the slide will lock back after every shot.
