Hey Fellow GT'ers, got a chance to buy a Valmet76W(wood-stock,synthetic forend) in .223 from the original owner. Supposed to be in near perfect condition. Has been a safe-queen most of its' life and has not been shot since 1996. He bought it new in 1988 and still has all accessories including the box, 1 20 rd. Valmet magazine and 6 35 rd. israeli mags. for it. Asking $1500.00 for it. Sounds like a reasonable price, but need opinions. Thanks Carl
I say buy it if you got the cash to spare. I would buy it in a heartbeat!
Many consider the Valmet line of AK's to be the finest AK's ever made and I tend to agree. Check this site out for more info www.valmet.org/forum/ $1500 seems to be par for the course for a Valmet 76 nowadays. Maybe try to negotiate him down one or two hundred, but $1500 is a reasonable price for one.

the Valmet m76 (wood stock, plastic fore in .223, $399 NIB) I had back in the good 'ole pre importation & hi-cap ban days of the early 80s, was the only POS evil rifle I ever owned. Perhaps it was a lemon but it went back 3 times to wherever B&B guns in LA sent them and still did not work.............double feed. My dad sold it to B&B a few years later after the bans while I was away in the Army for $800.

Sorry to hear about your luck with your Valmet! Your report is the only one I have ever heard about a jamming model76! Hopefully it was just your luck to get a lemon! This particular one is supposed to be completely reliable according to the owner who I believe would not lie about it!

Well, at the going rate for these rifles, I hope it is relable as I plan to shoot it, not just let it sit in the safe! I trust the seller to be honest in his evaluation of the rifle and expect this one to be 100% reliable! If not, they seem to be going up in price, not down, and I would sell it!
I just bought one myself, should be here in 3 days. I got one with the plastic stock and 7 mags for $1300. I consider that a very good deal. $1500 seems to be about the going rate.
Be careful with the Galil mags, there has been a lot of talk about feed problems with them. Something about the mags not inserting far enough and jamming the bullet back into the case. I think you may be able to replace the follower to get it to feed correctly.
I actually prefer the wood stock, I will probably replace mine if I can find one. Post some pics when you pick it up.

I too have heard about problems with the Galil mags and am skeptical, but he says the work fine with no problems. I will look closely at them for issues. Pictures will be posted when it arrives!

the Galil was derived from the Valmet M series so the parts might not be intercdhangeable............as Isreal improves everything.
