I am new to shooting, and have started competing in USPSA/IPSC, and soon IDPA events. I have a G19 which I shoot in the production class.
My question is whether a Ready Tactical custom holster is worth the extra time(wait period), expense(shipping), and hassel of ordering online over a $56 bladetech, which I can purchase at my local brick and mortor gun store.
Same question on a belt, I can get the Uncle Mikes rig locally for only $25, it looks very similar to the wilderness rig only cheaper.
Btw I do not hav a CCW (yet!)so daily carry Is not a factor.(yet:supergrin: )
Thanks for the input:beer:

Start with what you are comfortable with. I started with a G17, Uncle Mike’s paddle & mag. carriers, nothing else. At this point, just get good with your gun. Once the addiction sets in, you can start experimenting with the rest of the goodies
When you start to carry, Predator IWB. This is also a good IDPA holster.

man you will never regret having a blade tech no matter what other holsters you have. It's just an awesome holster. I use mine for both IDPA/IPSC/Hiking. I also use my versa max 2 in IDPA. I try to use my versa max 2 for idpa, and am going to try using my blade tech for just IPSC

Look at the Blade-tech molded belt holster. It's cheap and fast as any, also legal in both IDPA & USPSA.

And ... the Blade-Tech injection molded holster is only $15 AND they will get it to you in about a week (their custom molded stuff has a significantly longer delivery time, unless of course you can get one already made in a store!).
You will never regret buying the Blade-Tech. If you have a gunstore that has it in stock I'd go for it.
I regularly use the blade-tech injection molded holster and my wife uses one of the more expensive blade-tech's. I'm very happy with the $15 injection molded Blade-tech and I can't see much of an advantage that any of the more epensive kydex holster give.
I would highly recommend a CR Speed Belt.
I finally took the plunge for one and it was money well spent!!!

I bought the Blade-Tech with Tek lock for $56 + tax from my local gun shop. it seems very well made, and was the same price as the other custom made Kydex holsters.
This is my first rig and I was very excited, and wanted to get it asap.
I can tell you that I have Blade-tech (the custom one), Comp-tac and Ready Tactical. All things equal I'd go with the Ready Tactical every time.
However, there would not be a reason to wait for a Ready Tactical if you could purchase a Blade-tech at that price and have it that day. I would have made the same decision you did.
We don't have any local stores that stock Blade-tech or the other better holsters.
I'd really like to see one of the injection blade-tech holsters the person mentioned that are $15. That would probably be a nice holster and the price would be hard to beat.
I don't know if you bought the Uncle Mikes belt yet but they are not sized very well at all.
I tried a lot of them thinking I got a lemon and every one in the store was sized bad.
The 'Large' was too big and the 'medium' was too small.
Go with the real deal....get the Wilderness.
Oh yeah,
I prefer Ready Tactical gear to any other.
Just a quick update - I just got off the phone with Chris Stewart of Ready Tactical.
He is working on a number of orders and is behind where he likes to be. I think he said wait time could be 2-3 weeks.
In a different thread I said that those of us that know how good these are should have kept out mouth shut
oh well, they are great holsters and worth the wait.
I wanted to post this in case you're like a friend that called me this morning - he said that he just can't stand to wait and needed a holster faster (a week at the most). Comp-tac makes a nice holster so he said he'd check there.
Proud to say that both Ready Tactical and Comp-Tac are sponsors for the Carolina Cup. The second largest IDPA match in the country - join us in Oxford on June 3rd & 4th.

Not worth it. Stick with the Blade-Tech.

How are they on the finish? I'm getting into idpa and I am in need of a good holster.

With all due respect, if you're worried about the finish on your gun, put it in the safe, lock it, and find another hobby.
All belt holsters, whether leather or kydex, will cause wear on the finish of your gun. It's a natural and unavoidable process that occurs when you draw/present and reholster. You can minimize the wear by keeping the inside of the holster clean, but you can't eliminate it.
Rhino is right, any holster is going to wear your finish. My Blade-Tech holsters wear the finish at the trigger gaurd and 1 spot on the left side of the slide.
