I'm sure most of you that have been here very long has seen my pic of the 5 different models that I have of the S&W line:

Well, I can now add this to it:
http://bambihunter.myftp.org/images/10mm/S_and_W/1046/IMG_1423sm.JPG
It sure wasn't as good of a deal as the NIB that sold on here a few weeks back, but I am glad to have it none-the-less. I think I am going to send it in to S&W for them to check it out and re-bead-blast it (it looks better in the picture than in real-life unfortunately).

Congrats bambihunter! I know you've been working on your Smith collection for some time.
I assume now that you're going to try and pick up every variation of the S&W 610? ;)
Congrats!!
I've only got 2 right now, a 1066 & 1086 that I picked up within a week of each other.
I should be able to find a 1006 and a 1076 in the near future, but doubt I will ever get 1 of the 151 made 1046's. I'm also not sure how hard it is to find a 1026 since they only made a little over 5,000 units.
I'd really like to pick up a 1076 next cause that would finish out the 4.25" S&W 10mm's for my collection.
Pretty cool, sir.
Could you give us a brief rundown on what the differences between the models are? I know the model numbers by themselves tell the whole story, but I don't speak their language yet.
Well, here is a little research I did. This was all taken from various sources, so I'm not sure it's 100%:
There were six models in the S&W 10xx series. These are:
1006 - 5" standard SA/DA trigger with slide mounted decocker/safety. - 26,978 units produced
1026 - 5" standard SA/DA trigger with frame mounted Sig-style decocker. - 3,135 units produced
1046 - 5" DAO trigger with no decocker/safety. - 151 units produced
1066 - 4.25" standard SA/DA trigger with slide mounted decocker/safety. - 5,067 units produced
1076 - 4.25" standard SA/DA trigger with frame mounted Sig-style decocker. - 13,805 units produced
1086 - 4.25" DAO trigger with no decocker/safety. - 1,660 units produced

NordicG3k, the S&W revolvers are on my list, but they are actually near the bottom; I'm not a revolver fan. I think a Bren Ten SFL is next on my list. A few weeks back I missed a SFL that looked nearly new. It sold for $1,800 on GunBroker.com. I was oh-so-close to buying it and the S&W 1046, but I just couldn't quite come up with enough to buy it AND the 1046 so I chose the harder one to find.
I am thinking about getting a few more Witnesses as well.
Masque, bakjr is dead-on with the info on the S&W 10xx line.
bakjr, I have bought 4 1026's and sold 2 or 3 of them in the past year. They are definately harder to find than all but the guns with the DAO triggers (the 1046, and 1086), but no where near impossible to find. Two of the four 1026's I bought were a police model which had the magazine disconnect warning on the slide like the so-called FBI variant of the 1076.
I am DEFINATELY still looking for a better example of a 1046 than what I've got. I think I will send it in to S&W and have them check it out and maybe re-bead-blast it.
Bambihunter, congrats on finally snagging the S&W 1046. Nice collection.

I think why the SFL went so cheap was that there was what appeard to be a crack on the right side of the gun. A number of members over on the Bren forum were disucssing this, but no one had a diffinitive answer.
The two big holes in my collection are a Double Eagle and a Springfield Omega. Prices for these have gone up quite a bit in the past few years. I think I liked it better when most people thought of the 10mm as a "dead cartridge." It sure made the guns cheaper and easier to find!

Yeah.. I missed out on the last 1026 you sold. I was about 2 days late in finding the posting.
Let me know how S&W does with your 1046. I picked up a 1066 last week that is in need of a bead blast job. It has some noticeable holster wear and some light scuffs that I would really like to get taken care of. This one will stay in the safe with the 1086 since I plan on getting a higher production 1006 for actually shooting.
I wonder if they can change out the target sites for a novak style that's on my 1086?

I hadn't noticed the crack on that SFL. They normally don't have any troubles like that do they?
No doubt!
The list prices on the Double Eagles are obsurd now. A few years ago they were easy to find under $600, now I haven't seen one like that for a while except for the .45's.
Thanks for all the compliments on the collection. It's remarkable, since anymore unfortunately I rarely follow through with any long-term projects. :frown:
Cool Bambihunter, wish I was still in the area, I would like to take some of those for a test drive if you would let me:)
ONe of these days I would like to get my hands on a 1086, but that will be a ways down the road. I wish I had the money to get my hands on one now.

Bullman, I didn't know you had moved. I see your location... What prompted the move? How's the misses and the new addition? I hope all is well. :)
Well, the little one prompted the move I guess. This is Ginni's parent's first grandchild. Plus, Ginni owned a house here in VA, so the thought of raising our daughter in a home where we didn't have to pay rent, close to her grandparents, sounded like a good thing. So far it hasn't been too bad. I still need to find me a good gun shop to haunt.

Well, best of luck to ya out there man. If ya ever get back this way, I'd be glad to let you fire some of my irons. Keep in touch, at least on here...
This thread keeps pulling me in like a blackhole.

Me too, but I rarely get past looking at the pictures in the first post. All those Smith and Wesson pistols, if I had all that in my safe I would have to leave the house to go to the range, alot:)

I take that as a compliment.
