View Full Version : 6.5x55 swede?
I was intersted in one of these calibers in a mauser and was wondering is there any surplus that won't cost an arm and a leg? I checked aimsurplus and didn't see any, any recommendations. Thanks Esox357.

This is the only place I know of that has them.
They are not cheap and neither is the ammo, but sweet shooting rifles.

You can get a really nice one for $140-$180. There is plenty of good surplus ammo out there too, but a lot of it is Berden primed, so check before you reload. There are really good bullets in the .264 caliber to reload with. The swedes are the nicest of the surplus mausers in my opinion.
Thanks guys for the assistance, I will be checking into one of these on friday. Esox357
Google up M96 Mauser and you should find a bunch of helpful info on Swedes and their variants. Especially useful is how to read the stock disc, and the stamping on the underside of the wrist of the stock.

Scroll down to the 6.5x55 section:

prvi partisan makes some great new ammo for them that is reasonably priced. i want to say its around $10-$11/box plus shipping. i know my shop sells it for $15 a box.
Thanks for the info again. I plan to reload this once I know the pressure capabilities of the firearm. I will check out those links as well. Thanks Esox357.
Esox, the reloading manuals (Speer etc) should suggest you reduce max load by 1gr if using a mil surp rifle. Even with the reduced top-end, a Swede will shoot great!

Where?
Nice link to Swede markings:

unless what you are shooting at has a decent chance of eating you, 6.5 is about the best round out there -- all things considered.

I get surplus ammo at gunshows all the time. It's usually about $25 for 100 rds. I buy it by the box, not the case like .223.
That Samco link above has some too. $117 for 250 rds isn't bad.
117$ for 250? For that price you could get set up to reload your own for not much more...
Once you're set to reload for th eSwede, it becomes REAL cheap to shoot!
