I just picked up my first tactical shotgun. I ended up coming home with a Remington 870 Tactical Magnum shotgun. Its got the speedfeed stock and forend on it. All black as any good weapon should be. I picked up one of those nylon buttstock shellholders too and a bunch of 00 buckshot. What kind of mods do you guys normally put on your shotties?

Nothing. Try not to "tweek" your scattergun to much. The more you screw around with a gun the worse time you have defending yourself in court should you ever need to use it. Only make improvements that make the gun safer or more accurate. Cosmetics aren't such a big deal, just don't go painting skulls or something like that on there.
My closet gun is bone stock except for a sidesaddel for a complete reload, and a little clip on fiberoptic sight on the front. I shoot three gun and trap with it no problems. Also be sure to only use factory ammo for defensive loads, and save the box. Pick something standard like low recoil 00Buck from Hornaday or something like that. Don't start loading bird loads or slugs if you can help it.
Keep It Simple Silly.
Cheers
It should be fine just like it is. Enjoy........
Notwithstanding brass308's words of caution, I can think of several additions to your shotgun that will make it a better fighting weapon and will not adversely impact your attorneys' ability to defend you in the event you shoot someone in self defense.
The first and most obvious modification would be to add a light to your shotgun. I would recommend a Surefire 618FA light if your primary need for light will be indoors and a Surefire 918FA if your primary light usage will be outdoors.
Without a light, you will not be able to properly identify your attacker in the dark. The inability to identify your target greatly increases the potential for shooting at someone you should not have shot.
If your shotgun has a bead sight, you might want to invest in some good ghost ring sights. Although some will disagree, I believe that most people can be more accurate when ghost rings are mounted to their shotgun than when using front bead sight alone.
Edited to add:
Finally, I assume that because the 870 you purchased is a Tactical Magnum model, it already has an extended magazine tube (i.e., the magazine holds six if your barrel is 18" and seven if your barrel is 20"). If this is not the case and your magazine only holds four, I would strongly recommend you add an extended maganzine tube. This may require removin the dimples on the mag tube that prevent use of an extended mag. If this is a fighting weapon, you should maximize your ability to carry as much ammunition as possible that can be shot without reloading.

I have a dumb question: Can you use a butt sleeve to carry extra rounds along with a SpeedFeed stock? It doesn't look like there would be enough clearance fo load/unload the SpeedFeed stock in conjunction with a butt sleeve.
Any thoughts?

My Speedfeed stock doesn't hold any extra rounds.

I agree wholeheartedly. I bought a Mossberg 500 Persuader that came with a gold bead sight only. I wasn't too crazy about it, but I thought I'd try shooting it before replacing the bead. It turns out the bead didn't work well for me, and I ended up putting a ghost ring set on with a tritium front sight. Now I shoot more accurately with my Mossberg.
