And, is it ever coming back?

View Full Version : Where did all of the cheap 9X18 ammo go? CCV 04-09-2006, 13:05 And, is it ever coming back? RMTactical 04-09-2006, 18:17 It seems to have disappeared along with the 7.62x39... :frown: I still see Wolf around in BOTH of those caliber, but Wolf just isn't my favorite flavor... North Bender 04-09-2006, 21:37 There are still some vendors, not many, with 9x18 - what are you looking for? We're all waiting for the importation of Russian ammo to begin again. And waiting to see what the new prices will be. zippo 04-10-2006, 01:48 YES it very hard to fine 9x18 Mak. When they will come back for cheap price like befor ??? and why is all they have is WOLF ammo only . I miss Brown Bear or othe Russian make. zippo:upeyes: RMTactical 04-10-2006, 04:16 Originally posted by zippo YES it very hard to fine 9x18 Mak. Good thing I bought a case of Barnaul before the ammo issue got out of hand. I had sold some of it to family members, but I think I will hold onto the remainder, for now... ;) Mr. Tettnanger 04-10-2006, 06:42 The lack of ammo is truly upsetting. I had been looking for a Bulgy mak for a bout a year and the only thing harder to find is the ammo!!!!! I have a freind in the wholesale ammo, firearm, etc. business and he has been tellling me of this situation for about 6 months now. This is one reason i gave up my hunt for a bulgy.....if I find one....no ammo? Good luck on all of your searches and if you do find some..let us all know. Mr. T Bushbacker 04-10-2006, 11:43 I e-mailed Barnaul to ask about 9x18 ammo. I'm not expecting a reply but will post if they happen to respond. http://www.barnaulammunition.com/ RMTactical 04-10-2006, 14:37 Originally posted by Bushbacker I e-mailed Barnaul to ask about 9x18 ammo. JackC53 04-10-2006, 18:18 I'm a Mak noobie but in the past two months I purchased a Baikal .380, a Ruskie 9X18 and (2) P-64s (not true Maks but). If the 9X18 is such a problem, the .380 version sure comes in handy if you're having "withdrawals" LOL! I LOVE my .380!!! Just shot my Ruskie and the P64s today. The Ruskie was about the same as the Baikal and I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the P64s. Yes, it did sting in the web of my hand but they're extremely controlable and accurate for their size. I shot some Barnaul HPs too and not a problem. I work at an FFL that lets its employees play with used guns and I took a P63 along for the ride. What a POS!! JAM CITY! FTE, etc. Maybe that's why a customer traded it in. I really liked the looks/weight of the gun and was disappointed it didn't perform; it was $125 out the door too.:frown: I am one VERY happy man!! jAK-47 valkyrie182 04-10-2006, 23:26 All I can find locally is Wolf for 9 bucks a box and some S and B for a ridiculous amount. I too miss the 6 a box silver bear. M2 Carbine 04-11-2006, 15:39 It's a good time for you all to get into reloading 9x18. You can get into it very cheap. Buy a cheap "C" press. Used about $20 at gun shows. Buy a set of Lee 9x18 dies. The powder dipper and shell holder comes with Lee dies. About $23 Buy a Lee case trimmer and pilot for 9mm. I don't think Lee has a pilot for 9x18. They make a case holder that can be used in a hand drill. Very fast. Carefully grind off 1mm from the pilot. I guess about $10. Cheap, plentiful, 9mm brass can be trimmed to 18mm and loaded as 9x18. I'm still loading a couple thousand cases I trimmed years ago when there wasn't any factory 9x18 reloadable brass. Buy a chamfering tool to dress the trimmed case edge. About $6. Buy Meister cast lead bullets from Midway, or other places, $15.49/500, or load Hornady JHP, etc bullets at about $11/100 (too expensive for plinking but a lot cheaper than store bought). For about $60/1,000 rounds, load lead bullet rounds that will shoot better than anything else you have shot in your mak. 8x11 inch target. 48 yards. Mak lead bullet handloads. Bulgarian Mak. Figure you shooters with younger than 68 year old eyes should half the group size, at least.:) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v135/Bell406_206B/48_yds_Bul_Arsenal_Mak.jpg Ron3 04-11-2006, 17:37 I've seen 95gr Wolf and 100gr Wolf online for $5/50. Georgia Arms sells 9X18 Gold Dots for about $14/50. Hornady sells a 95gr XTP load, but I'm not sure who has it in stock. Sellier and & Bellot is available for about $8/50. I'm happy with Wolf though. Ron3 Revenuer 04-12-2006, 13:45 Cheap surplus ammo of every caliber is allegedly a thing of the past. Official reason for increased costs is skyrocketing transportation costs. In reality, I suspect both the manufacturers and importers see an opportunity to increase their profit margins. Nothing wrong with profit, but if they had any competition, I suspect any such increase might be modest. Doubt any new competitors will show up as the overseas ammo is still much cheaper than domestic made fodder. Banker Billy 04-12-2006, 16:51 A little OT, but . . . . I was at a local gun auction last week and on one table was a box of 9Mak ammo. It was steel cased ammo made by Tula, marketed by B-West. In little 16 round boxes. A total of 800 rounds. I was the sole bidder -- appears no one there know what it was for ! Auctioneer said "It's some kind of 9mm ammo, that's all I know". Got it for the opening bid. To ashamed to tell you what that was ! ! Let's just say it was about 3 cents a round . . . . . :) Bushbacker 04-12-2006, 17:05 Originally posted by Banker Billy Got it for the opening bid. North Bender 04-12-2006, 19:09 Banker Billy, you realize that the B-West in 16-round boxes is corrosive? Good ammo if you don't mind the cleanup. I understand that the companies who are importing 9x18 are changing. Some old contracts lost, others being signed. I suspect, but it's just a hunch, that the change in importers has played as big a role in the dry spell as anything. 50 Cent 04-12-2006, 22:28 The only good thing about the Wolf ammo is that it will tide me over til I can get the next case of Silver Bear (maybe 2 cases ). But its getting to the point where its almost cheaper just to go back to carrying my Glock 19 and plinking with FMJ WW stuff ($ 6-7/50) and carrying the WW 115 gr JHP's ($ 12/box). Shipping and handling brings 9x18 ammo close to out the door Wal-Mart prices for 9x19. Banker Billy 04-13-2006, 07:34 Hello N-B, Yes -- I know it's corrosive. Have shot some in the past and it always goes BANG ! For about 25 cents per mag I can spend a little extra time cleaning after I get home from the range . . . Teakwood 04-13-2006, 18:31 I just got J&G Sales' flyer. 92gr Russian for about $100/1000 http://www.jgsales.com/ CCV 04-13-2006, 19:42 Originally posted by Teakwood I just got J&G Sales' flyer. 92gr Russian for about $100/1000 http://www.jgsales.com/ On J&G's website it's all backordered. Dan's is in some way affilated with and/or owns or is owned by PW Arms of Redmond, WA. On the Barnaul website, Dan's is the sales e-mail contact and the phone numbers for PW Arms actually ring at Dan's Ammo. http://www.barnaulammunition.com/contact.htm Anyway, this is the reply I received to the question of why there's no more Barnaul 9x18 being imported: More or less Barnaul, the factory has been quite busy with there military obligations. North Bender 04-16-2006, 15:59 Well, that reply approaches literacy but doesn't quite attain it. I've read on other forums that the Russian Govt put in some huge ammo orders that stopped the plants from making stuff for export. Rumors rumors. CanyonMan 04-21-2006, 23:10 It has seemed, like everything else to have dissapeared some what. But when i can get into a gun show, there sems to be some russian, or chech stuff around for about 6.00 per 50. CanyonMan vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
