I see people post about using BB shot. What size is it? Also, I don't hear anything about shot size between #4 & 00. Is there such a thing as #3, #2, #1, or 0 shot? I'm kind of a novice when it comes to shotguns & I want to learn as much as I can.

I recently bought a New England Firearms (H&R) "Pardner Pump". It's a 12-guage with a 3" chamber & an 18.5" barrel. I paid $169 & was suprised by the fit a finish for the price. That's kinda the reason I bought it (other than the obvious need for a HD weapon). It also came with sling studs & was drilled for a scope mount, as well. Both of which usually aren't found on inexpensive shotguns. It's been flawless thru about 50 rounds. I'm really beginning to like this gun.

One thing I've found thru my plinking so far is I'm almost convinced shotgun slugs are the way to go for HD as far as stopping power. A 1-oz. projectile at about 1200-1300 FPS is pretty impressive (2.75" shell). Anyway, I'm curious about my original questions & would appreciate any & all help.

BB is .18"(or .177" hence BB guns) in diameter, and would be basically #0 shot, as opposed to 0 Buck which is about .32". As far as I know there is no 0 shot, rather they call it BB. 1 and 3 exist, but aren't very common. 2 is readily available in turkey and waterfowl loads.

I just found my answer in another thread. For one thing, I didn't realize there was a 4 shot as well as #4 buck. For those who are like me & not sure, the common lead shot sizes from little to big are: 9, 8, 7-1/2, 6, 5, 4, 2, BB, #4 buck, 00 buck. The common steel shot sizes are: 7, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, BB, BBB, T, F, FF.

You left out #3 Buck (20Ga), #1 Buck, 0 Buck, & 000 Buck - All are pretty common.
