I just picked up an Armory USA SSR-85C-2 at a gunshow this weekend. I love it so far, just took it to the range today. I also have a WASR-10 and this gun is so much more solid and the parts fit a lot better. The trigger is more crisp and the finish is perfect. it's also a little bit heavier which makes it more controllable when shooting it. I still like my wasr but this is a real AK kinda makes the wasr feel like a toy. I got the one with the synthetic furniture I thought it was black synthetic when I bought it but they didn't have the best lighting. When i got home it actually looked like it may be plum.

I bought it new in box but the lower front handguard is a little marked up i guess from shipping or people handling it poorly at the show, other than that it is perfect. Does anyone know where I can buy just the lower front handguard?

Also anyone have any luck with the drop in recoil buffers? I was thinking about trying one in this gun they are only $15 or so but I don't want to waste my money if it's just a gimmick.

Buy the handguard here:

Yes, the buffer is worth it. For the price, you can't go wrong.

Do you have a range report on its accuracy to give us? I've very interested in that exact AK. Or, are you still looking for ammo? Worry not, a couple more months at the most .. On that note my AR is much more reliable than my AK, it has ammo. HA HA, -dok

I ordered and Paid for the same gun and have been told they are having a hard time getting them. I ordered form James at Ordnance Outsellers. I google Jame and OO and everything I read about them seem to be well above board. They seem to be extremely reputable. I hope!

James and Ordnance Outsellers are very trustworthy. I just bought that very model from him a few weeks ago. He only had two left then so I'm sure he's just sold out at the moment. I've bought four handguns and the AK from James and recommend him to everyone. Don't worry, he'll treat you right.

Have one I bought last year. Living in Houston has an advantage in that you can buy factory direct.
Great accuracy.
Well made gun.

Are you telling us that you want to replace a synthetic handguard on a cock-diesel AK because of some handling marks?? I guess some people are perfectionists and thats understandable, but I think its a bit silly. A simple search will give you tons of sites that offer the handguard individually. Anyways! Where you at buddy how is she doing? Had it on a bench? How does she shoot, what ammo/distance are you shooting? Any reservations? Worth every penny?

Anyone that has an ssr-85c-2, if you dont mind I'd appreciate hearing whatever you feel like telling. There's a blonde philly that answers to Armory USA at atlanticfirearms that is calling to me...... Whats worse, I can actually afford it. -dok

I got my blonde ssr85c2 from atlantic firearms and I love it. The dudes at my range who handled the transfer loved it, too. they were amazed at the amount of gun I got for the money (prices in shops in the city tend to be WAY high- for the saqme money in the shop I'd have got half the gun.)

Well, I had it out to the range last weekend hope to take it out again tommorrow for a final sighting in.

The first time I shot it I couldn't get on the 25Yd range and was shooting 100yds I couldn't even hit the paper. I got on the short range for a couple shots and got it on paper but it was shooting left then I had to go. Hopefully I can get it to hit center at 25 yds tommorrow and then move back out to 100yds and get it set. I love it. It's solid, it doesn't recoil as much as the wasr probably due to the extra weight and it feels much more solid. The handguard isn't realy that bad but this was supposed to be my gem AK so I wanted it perfect I have the wasr for beating around. I'll let you know how it goes if it doesn't rain tommorrow and I get out there to finish sighting it in. It was way off and took a lot of adjustment I think someone was messing with the front sight before I got because if it was sighted from the factory they did a really poor job. It was shooting 6-7" low and a little left.

I think it will be worth every penny once she's sighted in, right now i'm just focused on getting it to hit accurately.

I'm shooting without a bench rest which is how I sight in all my guns and I've had good luck. I'm not trying to get the tightest group I can I just like to shoot and have fun. I'm using wolf ammo and it loves it.

Well I'm kind of disappointed after this weekend shoot. It shoots tight groups but it shoots left. I drifted the front sight all the way to the right and it still shoots left. Elevation is good but I am out of adjustment on the front sight and can't bring it anymore right so I guess I have to buy the adjustable rear sight to get the windage on point. Unless someone else has an idea.

Send it back to the factory! Jimmy will treat you right. Their customer service is incredible.

I have an SSR85C-2 in blonde wood, and it is BEAUTIFUL! It also shoots like a dream. I've only had one problem with it, and that was a stuck casing that a buddy of mine ripped the head off, giving me a broken shell in the chamber! It was down for the count until I could get a broken shell extractor after it. No problems since then...

Here she is:

I also have an underfolder from Global Trades. It's the SSR85B-UF. I have the front sight drifted pretty far to the right in order to have it sighted in correctly, but it's not too bad. I have shot it on my department's patrol rifle qualification course, and shot a 100%. I shot a 100% with my Bushmaster with Eotech also, at a faster pace, but 100% is 100%. Probably had more to do with the Eotech than anything.

Well I'm still waiting on mine. I was asked to call them back in a couple weeks if I didn't heard from them. I was offered a refund though. I emailed Atlantic arms, and the said they had them in stock BUT, they wouldn't ship for 1 or 2 weeks. Something must be going on. Watch, the 1k rounds of ammo I ordered a couple weeks ago will probably come before the gun.

Jeff22, I apologize for using your post for my problem, but the history of the gun was here. I hope you understand.

If it's shooting to the left, then you need to drift the front sight to the left to bring it online.

I'm pretty sure if you move the front sight to the right your aim moves to the right.

If I could adjust the rear sight I would move it to the left to bring point of aim to the right.

Does anyone know what is involved with shipping a rifle I shipped a handgun for warranty work once and it was pretty easy but I can't imagine trying to box up a rifle and sending that back.

well instead of sending it back i decided i would try a kreb's custom adjustable rear peep sight. I ordered it a few days ago i'm not sure when it will get here but when i get it installed and take a trip to the range i'll post a review of the sight on here. hopefully it will work as well as i hope it to.

this gun should be really nice when i'm done with it, it already shoots amazing groups i just wish they were on the bullseye instead of the left side of the paper.

When adjusting sights...

If you are adjusting the FRONT sight move it in the direction that your shots are off. If they are high, unscrew the front post some, if they are left, move the front sight to the left.

If you are adjusting the rear sight move it in the direction you want the shots to go. If your shots are high (therefore you want to move them down) move the leaf down. If you have a windage adjustable rear sight and they are left, move it right (the direction you want the shots to go).

oh........crap..........

wow, i feel about 2 feet tall. I've sighted in plenty of rifles before but it's almost always the rear sight, I don't know how I got so confused. I even have a wasr-10 but I bought an adjustable rear for it too because I could barely get the front sight to move with the little tool. This one is a lot easier to adjust with the tool but it would help if i moved it in the right direction. i guess i'll check out this krebs peep sight and see how it is since i've already ordered it.

I had an SSR-56 and it was a pos. After numerous times back to Global Trades for various problems we finally worked out a trade. I got a SSR-85 but with the plastic furniture. Boy what a difference!
The 85 has simply been superb. The trigger is like silk. The gun is very well made. Never given me any problems. Very accurate for an AK. I think one of the big problems with most AK's is the lousy rear sight. I put a MoJo adjustable peep sight in the back. Got an UltiMak forend and put on a good red dot that the MoJo cowitnesses. It rocks! With good ammo it will group about 2" at 100 yards. No not AR sub MOA. But a hell of alot better than most AK's 4"-6" groups at the same range.
Loaded with Winchester JSP's it is a very formidable weapon indeed. Lots of offers to buy it. No way! It's a keeper. It's definately one of the best Ak's made.

For the guys who own an SSR-85, can you tell me if the trigger is two-stage or single stage? I prefer the two-stage and don't care for the Tapco G2 trigger, if that helps any.

Thanks in advance.
