New gear came in the other day! It is so light and comfy! Has a pad in the back of the pants for lumbar, but I think it makes a great tail bone cushion. The pants also have the lumbar belt that is supposed to help remind you to lift correctly.

I have some new stuff on order. My gear was new when issued to me back in 88 when I was hired. The only things newer than that are my gloves and a red helmet when I made Captain.

I started with this department in '04, 8 years before that on a differetn dept. Anyways, after your first year, you get new fitted gear. The stuff I had was securitex, and I was always afraid I'd be one of the unlucky ones that had it fail. The crotch did come apart though.
