Feel free to give your inputs, comments, suggestions on the said handgun. I am referring to the Commander model only and not Norinco handguns in general. Photos are highly appreciated. Thank you.

I'd carry a Commander anytime. Too bad, they're now mostly available in .45 ACP only. I would like to see a Commander in .38 Super and 9mm.

Nothing bad about the commander. I'm a traditionalist and would prefer the Government model.

got a SAM Commodore commander size cal. 45.
it shoots great but was not able to spend more time with it to find out any pros & cons with the said boomer.

seems accurate to me, but small parts may really need to be upgraded to those other trusted high-end brands.
finish & fitting had already improved compared to those early prods(mid 90's)
factory magazines might be a problem sometimes, specially when you want to load it in a full capacity.

I was able to buy a commander norinco a few years back. I also had an edbrown commander barrel lying around so I had a lot of things done even if it need not to. so now I have something that looks like an edbrown exsecutive carry model complete with 25lpi checkering and bobtail.

Usually i-pick-up niya yung pistol sa PB Range.

Beatiful gun, Judge. :)

Doc EC,

If they could do logos, I think they can also do engravings using the chemical method.

Remember the 1911 of Taurus which we fell in love with because of it's intricate engravings?

Eye Cutter

problem is, we have to give the design to them which they will scan and transfer to acetate.

i'll ask if they can do the engravings using the etching method

I bet the sights on Judge's Commander are Chip McCormick sights. I've had them on my Norinco full-size and they quite fast and easy to acquire a target.

Unfortunately, mahirap mag maintain ng branches. We have Arms Depot in Tacloban and soon to open WSC Zamboanga. However, if you wish, you can purchase your M1911 Commander from Shooters or Magnificent. WSC is their supplier for the Norinco Commander.

The price of the sights are not bad. The CMC sights are even more expensive.

There's a gunsmithing shop in Iloilo that makes copies of Novaks. The dimensions are quite the same since they use CNC machinery. Kaso lang, it's an infringement of Novak's patent.

You might want to try and PM Django as to where the location of the gun shop is. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the place. I was taken there once by a friend and I forgot where it is.

If you get to find the place, look for "Junior Burahog." Last time I heard he was still working there. He is a very good gunsmith (his speciality is checkering) from Silay who used to work with the gunshop of Bigot Velez, of the now defunct Club 44 of Silay. He is a contemporary and a very good friend of my gunsmith, Chito Montes.

Yes, Junior is still there and his skill has improved a lot thru the years. He is also lucky that his "boss" has a CNC machine and modern lathe machines which makes his work easier and more precise.

Actually, a lot of graduates from the gunshop of Mayor Bigot are doing quite well in their own gunsmithing shops.

Are you a member of GCNO Isuzu?

I was, during the time of George Lacson and when I was still assigned in Bacolod.

I'm a member of CNSA, although my status is "At Large." This status applies to members who move to other places. You could reactivate your status if you come back. I'm close with some GCNO members, though.

George Lacson used to be with Club 44, then GCNO and moved to CNSA where he taught a lot of people there. He was even instrumental in molding the former IPSC ladies champion, Kaye Cabalatungan at CNSA, before she moved to GCNO. Unfortunately, Tito George passed away a few years ago. If memory serves me well, the function hall at CNSA was named in his memory. The target paper with his perfect score in bullseye competition at the former Singcang Gun Club (circa '70s), is displayed there.

BTW, have you had your reloads done by Candi at Club 44 when you were assigned there? IMHO, she is the best reloader that I've encountered. She started reloading in the 70's at Singcang Gun Club, moved to Club 44 until she retired. She doesn't use a progressive reloader(she does it the old fashioned way), but shooters in Bacolod who went to international competitions in the 80's sought her services because she was very consistent with reloads. Never had a defective reload with her.

Yup, Tito Bigot's shop has produced really good gunsmiths. Chito also came from there after leaving Danao and working with Elias Larraga of Silay also.

Isuzu -

That's quite interesting. I know very well Pablo Nava of CNSA. Also Joseph Rojas. Your club holds a yearly George Lacson commemmorative shoot in memory and to honor Papa George as they fondly call him. When did you leave Bacolod? Our paths may have crossed in the several shoots that CNSA hosted and which my group and I participated in. George (may he rest in peace) was an icon of practical shooting in Negros and the Western Visayas. IIRC, the first lady shooter he coached who became popular in the IPSC circle was Nene Jalandoni. I dont think she's still active in practical shooting nowadays, though. Yes, Kaye was also coached by George before he passed away.

isuzu
04-23-2006, 22:47
Ah, yes. Nene was a very good shooter. She used to shoot a single stack .38 Super. She's not active now, and I think she's in the US (I'm not sure).

Left the Philippines in August 2004. Last competition that I joined was in TN where I had the privelege to shoot at my brothers' gun club, North Tennessee Practical Shooters www.ntps.org. Haven't got a chance to compete or touch a gun in Canada. Prices here are insane for firearms and reloading components (3x the price in the US and much more expensive than the Philippines). License to possess a gun here cost $400.00 alone. Guns should be kept UNLOADED and LOCKED at home. Pistols and restricted firearms must have a PTT. Hunting rifles and shotguns don't need PTT. Pistol's ammo capacity is 10 rounds while rifles are limited to only 5 rounds.

Django

That's not so encouraging for firearms enthusiasts.

Anyway, make do and enjoy with what is there and available. :)

I am sure that you'll find a place under the sun in the future where you can enjoy your guns.

Yes, there's a bump. I did not encounter any problems disengaging the grip safety. :)

I like the grips but would've preferred a more textured one. Smooth kasi yung nakuha ko.

How would you rate the Norinco stock barrel?
Is there a need to replace it if you make a custom gun out of a norinco? Or would it be accurate/durable enough for defense/target work?

mtho
07-26-2006, 11:16
they are good barrels to start with, but they are not stainless, they are chrome lined barrels similar to bushmaster m16 barrels.

you could replace them if you really want a fully custom gun, since the starting unit is really cheap, but if you keep them they're good and accurate enough.

imo the only work that is necessary in a norinco is the trigger pull. esthetics if you want it to look nice and a high grip beavertail if you prefer high grips.

They're pretty much accurate. I asked my brother in TN before if I should have my barrel replaced when I bought my Norinco. He said no. I used the barrel, and I was satisfied. It was chrome-lined and very easy to clean. Showed no visible wear after a couple of thousands of rounds.

ang rule of thumb is to use the lightest recoil springs that will reliably cycle your pistol without frame battering (metal-to-metal contact). if that happens, you're using a too light spring, itaas mo lang ng 1-2 lbs.

sa main spring naman, 17 or 19 lbs is adequate. yung iba nga 15 lbs pa gamit, pero baka mag dud ka na sa 15lbs hammer spring specially if you're using hard primers.

For a carry gun, I use an extra power conventional spring so that the next round will be reliably chambered and the slide would be locked a little longer than using variable rated or lighter springs. It's a different story with competition guns.

There is a FAQ regarding the use of recoil springs at www.gunsprings.com. Hope this could aid your search in looking for the perfect set up of your pistol.

In my experience 19 lb mainspring/hammer spring is a safe choice for a carry gun. Ignition has always been reliable with this spring.

doc,
nelson has a cmc trigger that looks like that, titanium pa yata yung trigger bow, cmc was part of the group that develope the 2011 together with tripp and streyer, I think it was called TRI then before it became sti and sv when they split up. so it might be an old cmc premium part, some times i see old packaged cmc squared hammer they say these are good hammers and not the mim parts but quite expensive also.

sa stronghand din galing yung kay nelson.

lakay,

mc_oliver
08-21-2006, 09:06
Just check the accuracy. Kung walang binago, oks lang yan. Kung meron, I advise againt having it re-chromed baka un-even yung new layer. You can also end up with a smaller inner diameter causing some pressure spikes. That being the case, I suggest you get a new barrel instead.

kcboy
08-21-2006, 09:31
so it is normal then to have lines sa barrel?

mc_oliver
08-21-2006, 09:42
No, it's not normal since a good quality barrel should be smooth inside. Pero my armscor barrel has tool marks din sa loob. Accuracy, however, is not affected. The final test should be how it shoots, not it's looks. ;)

I wouldn't suggest having your barrel re-chromed. Re-chroming could render your barrel inaccurate. I recall that somebody experimented getting a SAM barrel chromed even if my gunsmith advised him not to do so. After the barrel was chromed, the shots wouldn't group anymore.

The streaks you see could be just deposits running along the rifling of the barrel. Soaking the barrel in kerosene overnight and brushing with a copper brush would help clean the barrel. I would advise against using stainless brush, especially the Tornado brush. Matigas kasi.

And don't forget to buy pan de coco and coke 1.5litro for merienda habang ginagawa holsters, magpouches and belt para ganahan si uncle tony!

probably enhanced model un norcs mo kaya di nag match, kasi cut na un frame to fit their own beavetail. though stock frame model still needs modifications to fit anykind of beavertail unless it's drop-in like the one from wilson combat. just 2cents idea.;)

You're right. :) I have the enhanced model which already had their stock beavertail fitted. The stock beavetail which was larger took more metal out of the frame than an ed brown beavertail, so the gunsmith had to put some back in order to fit the ed brown.

Thanks for clearing it up. Kaya pala ganun. :)

pareho kami ni batangueno nakakabit na dp front sight sa ParaOrd namin, the dawson precision 0.90 with the buried fiber optic dot. kitang kita mo pa edges without the fo's glow overpowering. ang dali pa i-center sa rear notch.

When i use my glock parang naduduling ako. Siguro it's time to change my glock mepro sights to heinies.

Have you seen the Norincos in deenoh's gunshop at Makati Cinema Square? If I ever go back to handguns, I'll think of those. I like solid guns.
