Can anyone provide a definitive comparison of the TFO and WTS sights for this application? NavArch 04-11-2006, 19:48 Or, can someone provide a cogent argument for XS instead? 1337-G 04-11-2006, 21:27 The most cogent argument for XS is the speed of acquisition. Alaskapopo 04-12-2006, 00:52 XS sights are fast but I don't like how much accuracy they give up. Pat happyguy 04-12-2006, 04:33 The only thing that is aging faster than my eyes are my knees. I just ordered a set of the XS sights because I'm beginning to have difficulty focusing on the front sight. These old eyes just don't want to focus that close in anymore. I will let you know how it goes after they are installed. As for accuracy, check out this video: http://www.xssights.com/news.html Regards, Happyguy:) NavArch 04-12-2006, 11:23 Originally posted by happyguy The only thing that is aging faster than my eyes are my knees. I resemble that remark! Now that I'm thinking about the issue, I guess I'm really asking for inputs from those of us that have been around a few seasons. ;-) Looking forward to your test run with the new sights. Dead Man's Hand 04-12-2006, 15:50 I don't know what WTS is but I have had both the XS Big Dots and currently have the Truglo TFO sights on my G20 in the yellow rear/green front configuration. The XS Big Dots are fast but really only useful for self defense ranges under 30 feet or so. Anything past that and the Big Dot will almost cover your target entirely. I would only put these on a CCW only pistol, they have no useful purpose past that. They are nice sights however and they use Trijicon brand tritum tubes. The Truglo TFO's I put on my G20 last week are pretty neat. I have not put in much range time with them yet but I like where they are helping me put the bullet thus far. The yellow rears in the daylight pop right out at you along with the green front but at night the yellow dims quite a bit. I have heard guesses that the yellow rears are 80% as bright as the green, in daylight that may be true but at night it is more like 60%. If you are worried about seeing the sights with aging eyes I would look at an all green arangement of the TFO's. Here is a thread I posted on one of my sights this last week about the TFO's, it also has some pics I took of them to give you an idea how they appear in both day and night. http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5642 NavArch 04-12-2006, 19:16 Originally posted by Wiseman The XS Big Dots are fast but really only useful for self defense ranges under 30 feet or so. This pistol is being purchased for CCW. IDPA might be an option after a lot more practice, and some personal training. Does anyone have a problem with 3 green dots confusing them in the dark - getting the front sight completely left or right of the two rear dots? Normally, that would be a silly question, but adrenaline does strange things to people. Comments? happyguy 04-12-2006, 20:03 Got the XS sights installed on my G23 today and did some dry fire drills. Seems like a good setup for someone suffering from "old eyes syndrome". I'll report back when I get some range time. I the meantime, here is another thread about XS sights. http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=476918 Regards, Happyguy:) Alaskapopo 04-12-2006, 22:39 Originally posted by NavArch This pistol is being purchased for CCW. Normally, that would be a silly question, but adrenaline does strange things to people. Comments? It has happened to me on the rare occasion. It's usually the result of failing to get a proper grip on the weapon prior to the draw. It can be made worse by wearing thick gloves because the feedback you get from your grip is much less precise. It doesn't seem to happen if there is enough light to see the silhouette of the weapon though. Regards, Happyguy:) happyguy 04-16-2006, 08:14 Well, I got to the range yesterday and got to put a few rounds downrange with my G23 equipped with the new XS Big Dot sights. I got the non-tritium model. How do they work? I found that I am both faster and at least as accurate, if not more so, with these sights. I can actually focus on the front sight again and as strange as it may seem, it looks decidedly less blurry that the standard sight, even though it is the same distance from my eye. Initial acquisition is faster and reacquisition between shots is much quicker. The damn thing just stands out better. At ranges out to 10 yards I noticed a slight increase in accuracy and a dramatic increase in speed. At 25 yards they didn't seem much, if any, faster but accuracy was substantially improved. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Having a front sight that isn't a small blurry nub on the end of the gun actually contributes to accuracy! Admittedly, it will take some time to get used to using the different sight picture for different ranges, but that is a price I'm willing to pay for increased speed and accuracy. Lest anyone think that this is all in my imagination, I was shooting the G23 side by side with my G19 which is equipped with standard OEM night sights. I will be ordering a set for the G-19. I am not so arrogant to say that these sights are for everybody. Certainly if you are a young man or woman, with perfect vision, you may be more accurate and just as fast with standard sights. Youth is a wonderful thing, enjoy it while you can. In the mean time, I'll be practicing with my Big Dots. (NFI in XS Sights nor do I sell them.)
