View Full Version : .22LR conversion
Have any of you been able to shoot a .22LR AK? I thought it was a pretty good idea for getting used to the gun cuz .22s are so cheap and easy to get. I was interested in maybe getting one, but wanted to make sure it isnt crap.

Hmm, well that sucks if it jams :S I shot a .22lr rifle and it jammed every few shots, but think it was cuz it was dirty.. Really annoying.

You can get a 22LR AK47 from Dunhams for like $200....if you have a Dunhams around you.

Hmm never heard of the store, but on a quick yahoo search there's one 3 hours away and another 3 1/2 hours away.. Do you know if they would ship the AK to an FFL?

This thread is a discussion of a Romanian .22 trainer.

Well, after some searching around I think I changed my mine.
Think I may get a 5.45x39 AK47. From searching around I think a 5.45x39 is the same as .223 which is good. :)
Found it for a farely low price on the same site I was going to get the .22lr from

Ammunition is alot more expensive than 22lr but I'm sure it'll have more recoil which will make the gun feel more poewrful :)
Question: Once I get my AK I want to upgrade some parts, getting it new stock, handle, grip, etc like I mentioned earlier, but would I have to have these items shipped to an FFL or can they legally ship it to my house?
Whoa there, pardner.
The 5.45x39mm is a totally different round than the .223/5.56x45mm round!!
And, only serial-numbered components (typically the receiver on rifles, or the frame of a pistol) need to go through a transfer. Any other parts can be shipped to anyone by UPS or FedEx.
And finally, Mitchell makes/made the AK-22, which is, you guessed it, a .22 that looks like an AK.
There are many other suppliers of these little plinkers, too. Click here... (http://mem.tcon.net/users/5010/5491/akcopy.htm)
