View Full Version : Truglo TFO front sight.
The Truglo TFO front sight has come loose on my G23 after 300 rounds. When I installed it I thought there was to much slop in the fit. I had to really dog the little screw down, so much so that I was afraid of breaking it. I tightened it so much the flats on the screw started giving. I used blue loctite from a fresh bottle and let it set for 24 hours. I then shot 100 rounds through the gun, the sight was still secure. The following weekend I shot 200 rounds and now the front sight is loose. I have left a voice mail with Truglo and I guess we will see what happens.
I like the sights and would hate to have to replace them.
They really are bright but I can't use sights on a carry piece that I have to worry about.

Use a little loctite.

mine did the same thing. the loctite has worked so far, after about 500 rounds, it's still on there tight.

I tried posting a link to a "stronger" bonding locktite than the typical blue stuff.
I am clueless on how to post a link. Sorry.

you have to get a nut driver that has a small lip to fit in between the metal on the slide and the screw. I used blue loctite and that's all. I have about 500 rounds no problem. My main problem in the beginning was I used a cheap driver and it didnt tighten all the way. So I had to go to work and use a decent one(Goodwrench)It was skinnier than my cheapie.

I spoke with a guy at Truglo and he said to send it back, that it could be undersized. The next time I guess I will use RED locktite as the blue didn't work for me. He seemed more concerned that I was able to put the rear sight in with thumb pressure. I had a sight tool and did not need it. When I installed I thought CRAP I just wasted the money on this sight tool. To adjust windage I just had to loosen the set screw and nudge it with my thumb.
I have the correct nut driver but I could see where that could be a problem as there is not much clearance there.

Sounds like a good company that will make things right for you!

Yes indeed, they gave me no grief.
It was an easy call, very minimal effort to speak with a live person. I will post an update when it is resolved.
Most of my info on this I got from this site, though I can't recall where so here it is.
For my 19 I had to take a few thousands off the screw. I simply held it in the 3/16" nut driver with my thumbnail and used a small file. A few "test fits" and it was fine.
Next, do not put locktite IN the sight hole, only ON the screw threads. Otherwise you clog the hole and "bottom out". A toothpick "dab" is all you need.
Finally, if the sight does not push into the oval on the slide do not try to torque it into place with the screw. Lightly file the sight until it does fit.
Hope this helps.

I've mounted TFO's on five Glocks. Since Glock is using plastic sights they don't seem to feel that there is much need for precision on either the front cutout or the rear dovetail. Or, TFO's are all over the place on size. In any case, red Loctite fixes both ends. If your front TFO is loose, clean the sight cutout with lighter fluid or some other decent 'non residue' solvent. Put a little red Loctite on both sides of the front sight stub before you insert it. Use red Loctite on the sight screw and consider it a 'permanent' installation. Line up the sight, torque it down and clean up the excess Loctite before it dries. If you use red Loctite, be prepared to use a good size soldering tip to warm up the front sight screw to over 400 deg before trying to remove the screw. If or when the tritium dies, you can just twist off the head of the screw. Same basic procedure goes for loose rear. Put a little red Loctite up in the top of the sight dove tail and push it on home, use blue Loctite for the set screw. I have over 1500 rounds through my G22, which was a hand ‘push fit’ for the rear sight.
If the front is too tight to seat by hand pressure, use a vise or plastic hammer to make sure it seats all the way down. Try not to hit or squeeze the front sight behind the solid area. If it won't seat flush with the top of the receiver using light to moderate force, return it to Truglo. If you don't seat it all the way down, it may shoot loose no matter which Loctite you used.
switched to the RED Loctite.
No problems since then and you can still get it apart...just a little harder.
It did not occur to me that the screw might be to long.
The front site went in easily but required way to much tightening to secure. I had pretty much decided I was going to need to use Red Loctite next time. I put the Blue Loctite on the theads only, I have been working with leak lock, pipe dopes, and loctite since the 70's. There was not to much in use.
I appreciate all the responses , I now know how I am going to proceed when the replacement arrives. I will double check the length of the screw, and secure it with "Red", I will be prepared to use loctite on the rear.
I am so out of sorts being without my 23 I am considering buying a 27 to console me while I wait.
Well my dealings with the TruGlo folks was very painless, they were a pleasure to deal with.
The new sights arrived yesterday.
The rear sight was a tight fit requiring a sight tool to install (as I had hoped for)
The front sight fit nicely and required no where near the torque the original did. (I shortened the screw just a bit).
A liberal application of Blue Locktite and a couple of days to set. If it loosens again then Red it is.

It sounds like things worked out for you.
I've had those sights on my G19. I used blue loctite to install them.
I'm not sure how many rounds I've put throught it, at least 500.
The sights don't even wiggle and I'm much more accurate with them than I was with the stock Glock sights.
