i asked this on the 10mmtalk forum as well. i am trying to find a nice 1006 for my first 10mm pistol. i am really wanting one with the adjustable sights. i keep finding deals on fixed sight models. my question is, how hard is it to put adjustable sights on a fixed rear sight pistol? does it require milling the slide or is it a direct swap? thanks for any help.
Most Smiths I can recall have a groove for the fixed sight.
There are two spring channels under the rear sight that armorers need to get to...
Call S&W to be sure.

I believe you can replace the factory sights with any Bomar cut sights. I do know you can get adjustable or night sights directly from S&W. Here is a darn good deal on a S&W 1006 (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976688882.htm), it doesn't say which type of sights it has, but they appear to be fixed (the adjustable sights generally are silver whereas the ones pictured are black).
The cuts on the rear portion of the slide are different for adjustables, so, you wouldn't be able to put the factory adjustables on a fixed sight pistol without some milling. MMC adjustable might work though, and I believe they have the protective wings like Smith Adjustables, only on a smaller scale.
