View Full Version : can I install Truglo Tritium myself on a G19?
Fell in love with the Truglo night sight, but the dealers I contacted to buy a G19 from did not have Trulo. If I buy them from different source, is it easy to install on my G19 myself? Do I need special tool to do the job? If I have to go to a dealer, how much would they charge me for installation?
I had my Truglo TFOs installed at a local gunshop for $25. Some other gunshops in my area quoted me $40-$60 for the job. The TFOs do not come with a nut driver like some sights do. A rear sight pusher may cost more than the labor cost. I shutter at the thought of me putting my slide into a vice and having at the rear sight.
A man has got to know his limitations. Good luck and enjoy shooting with your new sights. I really like mine.

I installed mine myself, but I needed my MGW sight pusher, a 3/16th nut driver and some red loctite. My set also came sans set screw key so I had to find the right size hex key to use to set the screw.
It is really not very hard at all, but you do need some tools to install them. If you plan to have several Glocks the MGW sight pusher is a good investment for $60 or so bucks. You can get a 3/16th nut driver from just about any hardware store or you can order the Lone Wolf Glock tool and it comes on it which is what I have. Red Loctite is easy to get as well at any Wal-Mart or hardware store. It is worth it if for nothing else just to get under out from under the thumb of gun shops that over charge for a job that takes <5 minutes.

I was told that I might need to adjust the sights over and over again till I sighted it properly. is that true?
Does anyone rent one of these sight pushers? The renter could send the owner $X (enough to cover a new tool if it didn't get returned) and $y (small amount) for a two week rental. Tool is sent by owner and when done it's sent back. Owner returns deposit to renter in the self-addressed stamped envelope renter provided. I think this would work. Require the deposits to be in the form of something like Postal Money Orders.
Seems like a win/win. The person who bought the tool recaps a little bit of his purchase on every rental, and the person who rents the tool doesn't have to shell out big bucks (it's a lot of money to me) for a tool he/she might use once in awhile.
It involves some level of trust, but no more than we engage in anytime we buy something from Ebay or Gunbroker.
I think the tool is about $60, not a big money for me as I am filthy rich, right? Well, it's not big money, but I hate to spend $60 for a tool that I only use once or twice.
The rental thing is another problem because back and forth shipping cost will be more than $10. Add another $10, you can probably ask some local guy to do it for you.

You can spend $60 and never have to worry about this again, or you can pay whatever amount your local gun shop or gunsmith chooses to bend you over for everytime you want to install or adjust your sights on a Glock.
Maybe your local gun guy of choice will be nice and charge $5 bucks for this very simple job that takes <5 minutes. Then again maybe he will charge you a lot more because he knows you are screwed and you need to be able to get these sights on your gun.
Roll the dice and see what you get, I chose not play.

Maybe not "over and over" but it IS possible that the windage adjustment may not come back from the gunsmith dead-on for you. Personally, I'd suggest springing for the rear sight pusher--then YOU can rent it out to other Glock owners!
(Actaully, I just loan mine to range buddies--no charge.)

I installed mine with a $4 rubber mallet - shoots dead on.
just bought a set yesterday for my 21, dealer installed them free while I waited...
I looked the tool, which is basically a C-clamp. I guess I am going to try my C-clamp.

I suggest you look at both the tool and a C-clamp again. I've never seen a C-clamp that offers both a fixed part (to hold the slide stationary) and a moving part (to push the rear sight onto the slide).

I couldnt get the C clamp method to work w/o scratching the finish of my 23C. My local places seem to install it for $10-15. I wouldn't pay too much more than that. I think its best left to the gunsmith so you dont damage your gun.
Had it installed in a gunshow. $5.00. Another guy wants $20, I told him it's 5 min work, but he insisted $20, so I walked away. Only if he said $10.

I put TruGlos on my G19 with a 5mm socket driver for the front sight and a rubber mallet and a nail set for the rear sight. I also used a tiny drop of blue loctite to secure the front sight screw.
It shoots better than the factory sights and after several hundred rounds hasn't even wiggled.
